Ps2 is a good system... loads of great games to play on it.

generic, bland, not scary at all, graphics are nowhere near
as good as they made them out to be. i was very disappointed
by the demo.

res evil 5 = res evil 4.5

maybe the full game will be different.
but i doubt it

tell me about it! PS2 is like a goldmine of good stuff, even
in its twilight years. Haven't even touched Persona 4 yet,
not to mention the couple of dozen other amazing games on
the system.

You know, I never got the chance to play any of the Persona
titles. Always heard good things about them, though. I
always thought it was neat that the PS2 had good games, even
past its prime when people stopped caring about that
generation. Really a classic gaming system, not to mention
that since it plays PS1 games. owning one opens you up to a
world of great RPGs.

"res evil 5 = res evil 4.5"

thats a good thing I think, considering how good Res Evil 4
was...

"maybe the full game will be different.
but i doubt it"

don't give up hope, I could imagine playing the demo of 4
and thinking the same, however the the game should be pretty
long with a few surprises, i'm hoping it will be scary in
later parts of the game, as was 4.

It better be good anyway as i'm losing hope for the PS3,
still not enough good games for it, I mainly use it as a
blu-ray player, luckily its a really good blu-ray player!

I played the Jap demo and loved it in co-op but hated it in
single player. The AI of the female partner is terrible
sometimes! Has the screen tearing been sorted out? It was a
bit of a game breaker for me.

Even if this turns out to be a resident evil 4 clone, I
will still be happy. re4 was nearly perfect, so an extension
of that would be welcome.

Though it wont be as nice as those wii controls.

I won't be happy with anything BUT an RE4 clone. I sat
through half a dozen RE1 clones and enjoyed all of them...
the RE4ormula isn't tapped yet.

The RE5 demo wasn't that great, especially the archaic
controls... post Dead-Space, it just feels clunky. But I'm
not too worried. RE4's controls sucked too, you couldn't
even use a grenade without digging into a menu. But its
strength was in its variety of settings and brilliant
scenario design. You pretty much did something new every 5
minutes, for 20 hours straight, and no demo could do it
justice.

Well this is the thing isn't it. A demo of an RE game is
never going to be indicative of the whole thing due to the
awesome amount of twists and turns in settings and tasks. It
can't be judged as a gameplay experience from this demo as I
imagine both of these sections are throw away bits compared
to the big set pieces etc.

I just pray they sort out the partner AI otherwise I'm going
to have to pass on this.

I couldn't stand the fact that you had this retarded woman
following you around and nearly getting you killed in RE4.
The fact that they made her competent with a gun is an
improvement.

Seriously. The fucking girl ruined RE4 for me, that was the
nail in the coffin. That and the fact that they didn't
develop mouse support for the PC. WTF. How hard is it to set
up the mouse to do your aiming for you. Not nearly as hard
as coding an entire game.

the PC port was done by SorceNext, not capcom. and
sourcenext are lazy.

Yeah. Wtf. Camcom shouldn't have released something like
that. Their name was all over the box. It doesn't matter who
did the port. Thats how you get a bad reputation.

offline glasse from Harrisburg (United States) on 2009-01-29 20:40 [#02268423]

Not sure about the PC port on RE4, I played it on Gamecube.
About the girl that you had to take around with you, wasn't
that kind of the point tho? She isn't like a trained
operative or anything, so you have to keep her alive and
keep yourself alive. The AI itself may have been worse on
the PC port for her, not sure. On gamecube, when you
whistled she came, when you told her to get in the box she
got in the box, and for the most part she didn't get in the
way in anyway that wasn't intentional for the game.

The only annoying thing to me was the ridiculous dialog of
adam saddler and his little pirate buddy, but I guess that
was for comic relief.

I started d/l the demo for 5 but will finish and play it
tonight.

Apparently the Resident Evil series is known as "Biohazard"
in Japan. Doesn't have the same charm.

I like Biohazard more, it fits better, since it describes
exactly what every game in the series about, and has a
certain scary starkness. Resident Evil made sense in the
first game since... you were in a residence for the whole
game, but it's kind of goofy now. /nitpicking

I want RE5 to be awesome, but I'm just not awed yet. I hope
this is to my advantage. Even if it doesn't deliver, at
least I'll be neck deep in Killzone 2's online that week.

Actually, I never thought of "resident" as a reference to
the manor the first game takes place in. I always thought of
"resident evil" like "resident physician," meaning there is
an evil/aggressive presence looming over the protagonist
that must be dealt with. I guess "biohazard" is still a more
apt title, but I like the ring of "resident evil" better. :)

dead space is really good on xbox360. . . . story is really
derivative but the sound, lighting and graphics are really
good.

i really don't play computer games much but this one stood
out (played so many and most are reruns). . . i loved the
plant level . . . reminded me of silent running. . . i'm on
chapter 10 atm so nearly complete. . . awesome sound design.
. . lighting is as good as alien. . . really impressive.

exactly like Alien"

it's actually impressive how many story lines they managed
to steal from. . . 2001 monoliths. . carpenters the thing. .
alien . . solaris memories. . . event horizon horror. . .
arguably silent running. . . its made so well tho that it's
OK! =]

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so they say.
You're right, though, it seems to be an amalgamation of all
those classic sci-fi and horror films. I was on chapter 8 (i
think) when my harddrive died, so I'll have to reinstall it
and play it again. :)

over a second time, but it was a damn good experience while
I played it.

According to the gormless oaf in Gamestation in Scarborough
the 360 collectors edition (but not PS3) of RE5 will come
with another remake of RE1. I asked if it would be a port of
the Gamecube remake or a new version but he didn't know.

Also Dead Space is easily one of the most polished games of
this generation, presentation wise. Fucking remarkable on a
decent HD TV. Can't wait to see what the team do with their
next project, Dantes Inferno!

Wait
Wait
Whoa
Wait

An HD port of the REmake would be mind blowing, the Gamecube
version's backgrounds look pretty dingy on an HDTV. This
can't be true. Simply to good to be.

It does sound too bloody good to be true. I'll believe it
when I see it but the bonus content that has been revealed
for the European version is so terrible (bonus disc with a
making of thing and a trailer for RE: Degeneration)
there had better be something else at least.

Res 5
Street Fighter IV
Killzone 2

My PS3 isn't online so I can't play the demo but Killzone 2
looks pretty amazing, about time we had a FPS of this
calibre on the PS3.

I don't think so, they may develop a RE game for the Wii
but it won't be RE5, Wii can't handle the graphics.

I have to say the controls for RE4 on Wii were awesome
though!

I hope its not true that RE5 is only 7 hours long!

Fuck no, probably double that, and it's not padded with
filler either. Picked it up this afternoon, been playing it
for a few hours (by myself so I'll know what to do in
co-op). It's tough to put down, has the same satisfying
''rhythm'' as RE4... seems like the environments are going
to get pretty varied, lots of distinct gameplay setpieces,
always rewarding you with items to pick up every few seconds
and new gear to buy or upgrade, etc. The ally AI isn't bad,
once you learn to account for her when running away from
giant mobs and chainsaw men, she rarely fucks up and I like
having her as a mobile item-box.

I just wish Chris hammed it up like Leon did... unlike RE4,
this game's cheesiness is unintentional. And I kind of miss
having an attache case... in RE4, I could arrange my items
for hours... it was like a game within a game...

Yes I must say I am really loving this game, Ialready have 7
hours into this and am half way through the game. (replayed
some of the levels just for fun) Lots of stuff to keep the
game exciting, I had high expectations and was not
disappointed. Go out and get this game! Even playing witht
the CPU is a great time, but online with real people is
extremely entertaining in the teamwork end of things. Props
to Capcom on this release, and this come from a hardcore RE
critic.

i've got it and unfortunately have been ill so haven't been
abloe to play it much... I did play it for a few hours on
the day I got it though and only got to around chapter 2 so
i think it will be a pretty long game, especially playing on
veteran mode where i keep dying!

It has exceeded my expectations, which were already high.
The environments aren't as atmospheric as RE4's, and the
gameplay isn't as quite as varied, but it's closer than I
thought. Capcom's level designers are still untouchable. I'm
always impressed that they can make games this long and
still have every area feel different. I loved Dead Space
(and its controls), but Capcom is still in another league
when it comes to this genre.

My favorite part so far was cruising the marshes on the
airboat. Giant mutant crocodiles + 7 foot tall village
chiefs in full war regalia = oh shit

as for the ai, if you get to grips with the cover/attack
modes she's much better. In attack mode she will use the
most powerful weapon, for example in the tunnels I carried
the lantern and she used rifle for long range then shotgun
up close, i didn't have to do a thing.
