i may sound like a noob (because i am), but i need answers - ANSWERS.
i got a new tv today. for the first time in my life i connected a hdmi cable from my laptop to my shiny new lcd tv... i'm thinking of using my lcd tv as a computer screen, but the results were not as expected. the picture on the lcd looks crisp and clean, but the scaling is not right. when i view my desktop on my lcd there's like half an inch of screen missing in all directions, but otherwise it's fine. i've tried a myriad of resolutions but to no avail.
what to do?
if you need more info i'll try to answer you.
pls i need helpz.
thank you.

windows vista, res 1280x800.
i thought it had something to do with 16:10 vs 16:9, but no. i tried 1280x768 but it didn't help.

When you say the screen is "missing" on the LCD, do you mean that it's cut off, or that there's a black space bordering the image?

The most likely thing, then, is that your new TV's settings just need some adjusting.
Go into your TV's menu and adjust the image width and height until it resembles something of a complete display.

yes, this is my current assumption as well.
BUT, here's the problem:
i can't get into the fucking menu called "PC Mode" where you tweak the scaling. yes, i've read the manual of my tv (hitachi L32HP01E, if it matters). here's what it says:
"- power off both computer and display before making any connections.
- set your pc's resolution correctly before connecting to the tv. see the table on page blah blah blah."
i've done this, but when i try to select "PC mode" it's not selectable in the menu. weird.
