hey, i was just wondering if anyone knows how these second
hand cd shops work. i just bought icbyd from a second hand
shop, and it occured to me that aphex will probably not get
a royalty for my purchase. The fact is that I bought the
record because it was aphex twin, and I would like aphex
twin to get the credit he deserves for my purchase. what
kind of legal set up do these second hand shops have,
anyways? anyone...?

In the USA, I think the RIAA went to the courts to make
second hand shops illegal, but failed.

so, do second hand shops just make their money without
having to give royalties? it would be hard to keep track of
what they buy and sell, i would imagine. like jar said,
aphex already got the royalty so the cd itself becomes
property of another person, which can then be used (within
copywright laws) as they please, including re-sale, i
guess...? these are speculations and questions, folks.

Chill out the man already got his money the first time it
was bought. Second hand shops are my life-blood.

Market forces..........

Second hand stores don't pay for
distribution/artwork/recording costs etc. but they buy from
people who allready have.

It's like selling a house, you can't expect the original
builder to be paid each time a house is sold.
