looks nice, just the old one repackaged I think.

Thinking of selling my ms2000r, might get one of these
babies instead.

You asked for it. Your band asked for it. Your clients
asked for it. Your mom practically asked for it.

That thing looks wicked, i bet those keys feel like real
piano ones in some way, heavy and all. Though, it needs more
knobs to warm Fahz0r's cockle.

It could have more grunt at the bottom end, but it's nice
for pads and (some) leads. The vocoder is SHIT, 8 bands
isn't near enough.

that's one of the reasons I went for the ms2000r over the
original microKORG, the ms2000 having a 16 band vocoder. The
new microkorg has 16 bands according to the link.

the new microKORG uses the MMT sound engine, which is used
in the M3 and Radias (i believe)

or at least that's what the specs lead us to think....the
fact that the product page doesn't actually give us any
definitive details (polyphony, timbrality) and that it says
"specs subject to change" is a bit....well, shit.

considering it's due "early 2009" you'd have thought they'd
know what kind of specs they'll be putting out.

i would hope that since it's supposed to be a successor to
the microKORG that it would have at least 16 note poly, and
4 part multitimbrality (and i mean proper multitimbral, not
just using two timbres in layer mode like on the original
microKORG)

but then again, you do have to think that they need to
distinguish the models enough to have incentive to buy the
bigger brother (M3 or Radias).....ok, well at least having
two part multitimbrality (no shitty layer mode)

sorry, i'm rambling
and not in the best of moods

anyways, my points are still valid

sieg heil

Any synth with a "Genre" and "Cathegory" dial hurts my
feelings... It's not a synth when you can not turn the
respective knobs to create a sound that you, the user, want.

you can actually edit the sounds

it's just that the microKORG is generally marketed to the
beginner, and as a consequence has it's presets categorized

We can all master rigid GUI software like FL Studio or
Reason, but the music will only be made on a certain tier of
intellectual capacity. In order to supersede the conventions
of these programs, one must make their own software to suit
their needs perfectly (as with SuperCollider or Csound or
ChucK). People use things like the microKORG and FL Studio
because it's easy for uninformed people to make "cool
sounds" without knowing what the hell they're doing. And
even if they know what they're doing, they will only be able
to accomplish so much, and should rather be spending their
efforts with higher-minded applications.

That's great if you like to use half finished open source
crap that you spend so much time getting it to run you never
make any music. Or if you do it sounds like a refrigerator.
Professionals use software that costs money because the
programers put value in it.

I got through 2 sounds on the demo video and concluded it
sounds like shit, which isn't surprising considering I hated
the original microKORG. I suppose beginners would probably
love this thing, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Everybody starts somewhere.

Have you ever used SuperCollider before? Calling it
half-finished is just as absurd as calling Max/MSP
half-finished. It's the easiest software to make music that
I've ever used. The only reason your music would sound like
a "refrigerator" (?) with SuperCollider is if you programmed
it that way. That's the beauty of SuperCollider - it does
exactly what you tell it to do - it does exactly what you
want. It weeds out the inspired from the imitators. A lot of
"professionals" have used SuperCollider - Richard D. James,
Anthony Braxton, Ikue Mori, and Tom Jenkinson to name a few.
RDJ has even gone so far as to make his own SC-like
software. Is he not a professional?

People who don't get the results they want on software like
SC can only blame themselves, hence the greatness of the
application. I can get weird sounds to come out of Reason in
three minutes, but that requires no real thought process,
and I feel extremely limited by its interface. And I'm not
alone. I like freedom in my software - is that such a bad
thing?

seconds later:

Then it logically follows that SC requires even less "real
thought process", whatever that means.

Someone should make a move of experimental electronic
musicians thinking and typing. A silent movie, so we can
appreciate the pure thought process, but without all the
annoying clicking and static that comes with it.

TroutMask, all kidding and flaming aside - of course SC et
al are wonderful, but what do you expect using phrases like

"on a certain tier of intellectual capacity"

"higher-minded applications"

"It weeds out the inspired from the imitators"

"that requires no real thought process"

This attitude is the hallmark of the twat. You sound like
you could be an interesting chap if you exorcise your
unfortunate faith in the dichotomy between high and low art,
and high and low instruments. Conlon Nancarrow used a player
piano. John Cage used radios, for fuck sake. Stop prancing
around like you're balancing a stack of parthenons on your
mortarboard.

I never said people couldn't do great things with FL Studio
and the like. I just said that you can do BETTER and MORE
with a different type of software program. If you can do
incredible things with GUI software, like Venetian Snares,
that's great and I applaud you for it. But people like Nick
Collins can do even better with software that is almost
theoretically limitless in capability. I never meant to
disrespect those who choose to work with software that
requires conformity to an interface, and I do apologize for
making it seem to be that way. It's all about the music in
the end, I suppose? =)
