Music Wiki

I've been playing around with this idea for some time.. A
music making wiki.
It would allow everything froum sound design to music
theory, and specific tutorials to achieve particular effects
and such.

It would have no advertisements and no commercial section.
I did some googling and couldn't find a comprehensive
resource like I imagine, and especially not in wiki format.

I'm going to set it up later today, and I'll be writing
guides and tutorials shortly after, but what I want to know
is if 1. anyone would be interested in writing articles, and
2. if this is a good idea.
I'm sure it can be a good resource for newbies and advanced
musicians alike, and I won't go public until we have at
least 50 pages.
I have a lot of material I can write, both from my
experience and from general knowledge I have, so both
personal tips and more well known tips would be cool.

So, anyone in?

i't's a good idea, because everyone does things differently,
and there are many tips and tricks ...when i first started i
had to learn everything by myself, from reading manuals with
limited info, and by just trying things which was hard and
slow going, so i think this could be a good for people
starting out for sure..

The only problem is how much would you, or i, be willing to
share?
DO I tell everyone how I make my music?
If everyone contributed their own personal tips, it would be
an immense resource, imagine autechre writing there.
But what musician will do such a thing? They are usually
protective of their stuff..

I'm not sure..

99% of the stuff song writers and producers do can be worked
out by listening to the music so I can imagine that if you
got enough people with knowledge involved pretty much
everything would get covered. This is a good idea though,
especially if there is going to be samples to listen to and
the like. How in depth are you intending on making it? Is it
going to be a case of 'how to make crunchy snares' or
'making that one noise off of that autechre track using
fruityloops 3 and 6 free VSTs'?

if this is gonna be done, i would stick to the basics...

lets remember that Music is an artform, and as an artform
can be approached in many different ways.

everyone has their own techniques and their own ways of
working.

rather than have it be a definitive tutorial, i would hope
that such a wiki would be presented and written as a
guide

Indeksical, it could in theory by any type of tutorial..

oscilllik,

i think you're right.. it will definitely be a guide and not
the definitive 'answer'

however i would like some specific tips that go a bit more
advanced than just basics.

itll be up in a few hours when i get home, and we'll see how
it goes.
im pretty excited about this considering theres no really
good audio wiki online that i can see.

oh i wasn't bashing the idea, i think it's great. having
somewhere that's aggregated, so you can look in one place
rather than having to trawl teh internets.

i look forward to having a trawl through the wiki
