99 percent of the complaints about vista are caused by lack
of knowledge from the user

i don't know an answer as i'm still on xp

true, but it doesn't reflect well on microsoft that the O/S
is such a chore for new users to navigate. Even if all the
features of XP are still present, and then some, it's still
a definite step back in usability, at least temporarily,
until you've grown accustomed to it.

when buying a new laptop make sure Windows XP drivers are
available for it, then 'acquire' WinXP for it later.

there's this vice magazine contest that i really want to
enter (it's to make your own issue) but I can't navigate the
page, because I can't scroll left or right, and i'm not sure
if it's because I don't know how to navigate vista or
because of the flash player I have.

Vista's not that bad providing the hardware can cope, your
best bet is to ask at the shop 'can I put Windows XP on
later if I want?'

It's just one of those new dell inspirions...i'm buying it
online. Hopefully they have good online messenger services.

But I really want to fix this PC cause the contest only
lasts another month or so, and it's going to take a long
time to finish.

vista uses ram differently, it uses ram you're not using
anyway for other stuff, this is called fetching.

looks like adobe flash 10 is required, go here and
download and install. Restart your browser after it's done.

the problem with vista is that it's a pointless upgrade. It
dumbs down the OS in a lot of ways. Directx 10 is pointless
thus far, the developers have shown us that much. Aside from
some network security issues (which you can still have even
on vista), the only real benefit is that you can use 8gb of
ram, which XP cannot do.

tragedy, heres what you do: Make sure you have a bit torrent
client like uTorrent installed. go to google, type in
"windows XP torrent". (unless you're already a part of
demonoid or torrentleech, in that case look there first).
Look for one with a fair amount of seeds and some
instructions in the comments section. Follow the
instructions, install Windows XP.

yeah mininova will have one, or better yet
thepiratebay.org... look for one with at least service pack
2 included. Just read the comments to make sure it's legit.

if it's not working in firefox have you tried opening the
page with internet explorer? It will still be there in
programs somewhere.
