January 20th, 2009

i can't wait. been listening to live versions of the songs
on the album and it sounds pretty good.

Are you talking about Brothersport or the whole album?

brother sport. i've had that on repeat for the past couple
of days. its very tropical sounding. ac can do no wrong.

am i the only one who finds these guys extremely overrated?

offline 9000 from Tempe (United States) on 2008-11-29 16:22 [#02255893]
Points: 98 Status: Regular

in what sense? how are they overrated? what is said about
them that is just over the rate at which they shall be
rated? please. elaborate.

offline pigster from melbs on 2008-11-29 21:36 [#02256041]
Points: 4480 Status: Lurker

heh. when i first heard them i absolutely hated them and
thought they were the biggest bunch of pretentious douches.
but i gave their albums a chance and really started getting
into them.
would hardly call them overrated if people are actually
getting into them.

offline jules from United States on 2008-12-01 09:19 [#02256246]
Points: 754 Status: Lurker

overrated in the sense that it seems they are always praised
in every review i have ever read. strawberry jam got a 9.2
on pitchfork. I have tried several times to get into them
and just cant.

i even saw them live at the apw festival in nj and had to
leave their set because it was literally just a wall of
incoherent noise. i saw people with their fingers in their
ears.

ha, 9.2 for strawberry jam is a generous rating :) i mean, i
like the album and all, but that is higher than what i'd
give it. sung tongs on the other hand..

also! yeah. i've checked live clips on youtube and
absolutely hated what i saw. bunch of pretentious wanker
scene kids standing around with their eyes closed. i think
one of the guys had a light strapped to his head, and he was
looking all cool and really getting into the music, and all
he was doing was controlling a mixer!? either way, yeah, i
don't like their live stuff.

i guess its expected for a bunch of elitist dorks who only
listen to electronic music to hate on a great band.
whateves. if any of you idiots hasn't heard person pitch,
you're missing out.

If you guys want something truly overrated to be pissed
about, have a listen to Dan Deacon.

You get the sweaty hipsters, the indie cred, AND the
electronics.

YAY!

im not elitist by any means. i listen to electronic music
the least of all the genres i enjoy. i do love person pitch
however, but i find that to be pretty far from the
mastubatory nature of ac.

offline plaidzebra from so long, xlt on 2008-12-03 07:21 [#02256656]

can't like everything.

why not assume that people who like music that you don't
like like it for the right reasons instead of the wrong
reasons? or better still, why not just let people like what
they like without putting them down for it or assuming the
worst?

ac is unique, surprising, discombobulating, overwhelming,
delicate, sometimes all at the same time, sometimes one
after the other.

i think of all the stuff i've heard by them i've only really
goten into one track and that was Peace Bone from Strawberry
Jam, haven't given them the proper listen i should though...
guess i'll be doing that in due time

Leak Alert! Back to the dense shitwall style, with plenty
of bloopy bits and Panda Bear choruses. It's unique and
surprising, discombobulating and overwhelming.. and that's
before I even press play! Two weeks from now has never
sounded so good.

offline 9000 from Tempe (United States) on 2008-12-27 23:37 [#02261065]

just got done listening. i must say.... it sounds like
nothing anyone has ever heard before. so good. surprisingly
danceable. FUCKING AMAZING. hello best of 09.

offline thecurbcreeper from United States on 2008-12-29 12:10 [#02261285]
Points: 6045 Status: Lurker

hmmmm. got the leak and i'm not too big on it. seems a bit
too processed at times. (especially the vocals)

i guess a part of it is me hearing the live versions pack
some person made up on soulseek. the 6th track is something
completely different and was one of my favorites live. the
lyrics to the 1st song seem awful and awkward to me compared
to the live version i had.

i'm very critical of electronics in bands.

overall it's decent. could go either way. maybe i'll feel
different in a while but i'd rather listen to their other
albums or the live version of these tracks pre-album

offline cx from Norway on 2008-12-31 08:33 [#02261611]
Points: 4537 Status: Regular

the first track is great, good melody/riffs, but the other
tracks never reach this grandness.
it does have its moments on there for sure, some really good
ones too, but i still think ultimately the album could have
been much better.
it seems a little forced trying to be all happy and woohoo
but the melodies just dont warrant this, the sound /
production is more gripping than the content of the songs.

it's an album where a band embraced electronics 99.9%
percent. radiohead did it and many bands have done it
before.

it's not a big deal if others don't like it. don't be an
idiot about it.

in the words of elusive "get out of my thread"

offline staz on 2009-01-03 21:04 [#02262153]
Points: 9844 Status: Regular

it's a pretty weak album though, vs their old ones. their
songwriting isn't anywhere near as inspired as the previous
shit, they're using the electronics as a crutch here.

lol, i knew it. i havent heard it yet and i hope it changes

fingers inside them than radiohead

"...where the churning electronic sound, with its fizzes and
echoes and underwater cast, brings to mind altered states
and the confusing gap between the familiar and the strange,
the words seem like a running commentary on the essential
mystery of being alive."

wtf

It's not normally my cup of tea but I really like this album
a lot. Takes about 6 plays to really get into though.

nonsense. you're going to need at least eight plays, and a
strobe light.

i really couldn't get into their previous albums, mostly
because their 'quirkiness' seemed a bit too calculated to
me. i felt like they were trying hard to update mercury
rev's sound of the early 90s ('yerself is steam' and
'boces') for the 21st century.

but i like this. it's original and sounds less forced than
previous albums.

offline jules from United States on 2009-01-16 15:58 [#02265239]

i agree, i have really disliked just about everything they
have done before but this record is blowing me away. i think
its their most electronic album to date but it feels the
most organic and natural.
