I was reading Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles" and now I am watching the old mini series on YouTube and I can't work out why it spooked me so much at the time as I remeber it quite differently. but that's The Effects of Time for you, and it's still Very Enjoyable.

I'm hearing good things about Nick Harkaway's Gone-Away World
well actually i heard a reviewer say it was the best thing she read in 2008 but she couldn't really talk about it without giving too much away. supposed to be some kind of post apocalyptic sci fi.
anyway i'm gonna read it if I read one book in 2009

I've literally just finished Lost Girls by Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie
Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Alice of Wonderland fame and Wendy from Peter Pan hole up together in a French hotel during the build up to World War I and recount tales of their sexual awakenings that have created not only the women they have become but the classic childrens literature in which their characters feature.
It's a three book graphic novel containing extreme hardcore pornography most of the way through and I thought it was fucking great. As is to be expected from the writer of Watchmen, this book goes way beyond it's premise and becomes a study of our attitudes towards sexuality and fantasy as well as a thought provoking look at pornography and its place within society. The artwork is great too.
The complete three book set is fucking expensive though, so I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you know it's something you would really be interested in. Everyone else should hunt down a torrent if they can.
Lost Girls wikipedia
Now I'm going to start on Breakfast of Champions. Something I've been meaning to read for years.
