i just watched a documentary called 'perverts guide to
cinema' you get an in depth look at how film writers use
certain formulas or concepts to expose areas of human
psychology. the presenter examines many different films from
a psychoanalytical theoretical perspective, he refers to
freud's concept of the 3 parts to the human psyche fairly
often. i found this very interesting, and i was wondering if
someone can explain to me more about freud's concept of the
Id, ego and super-ego.

I have read some articles on it, but i still can't get a
good handle on it...

if anyone is interested in the doc, i can link you to it.

cheers

you cannot get a real grip on it i think,
cause its just a concept, an idea how to explain
on how you make decisions.
i dont remember the source but some woman said
decisions were made subconscious and then the brain
consciously tries to find the reason why you made them.
in some situations that may be right. but when you change
your mind sometimes while thinking about somehting it really
seems
as if personified i´s, egos, or super-egos discuss.

it's almost as if we are really 3 people in 1, which means
we are sort of like puppets, we have some control, but not
completely

Yes it is true, but thats not all, nor do we have any
control, no, we are a product of evolution, and so is our
cognitive apparatus.

The Pervert's Guide is narrated by Slavoj Zizek, who is an
important contemporary thinker, and a man with a sense of
humour to boot.

You might get a twisted perspective on what the triple
concepts of Id, Ego and Superego mean by reading/watching
Zizek, because he is looking at Freud through the lenses of
Jacques Lacan, a French student of Freud's, who had his own
opinions on the matter.

But anyway, psychoanalysis can only take us so far. Films
can be analyzed by a million different ways - or left
unanalyzed.

ahh it's nice to see someone else has seen it, i will check
out zitek, thanks

yes it was kind of subjective, i'm never that observant of
these hidden details in films, but it's interesting to get
someone's intellectual perspective explained to you.
