Is Grime just substandard UK rap?

Haven't heard any that doesn't make me cringe, have I got
it all wrong?

What have you heard?

I think i'm one of the people on this board who is most
positive about Grime.

There IS a lot of shit in this genre. I especially hate it
when they make a track with a normal hip hop beat, none of
their styles really suit that.

I really like Jammer, so you should check him out. For some
more poplike tunes, Skepta is good. JME is talented. Lethal
Bizzle has his moments (try and see if you can find the
track "best" by him, it's one of my favourite Grime tracks.)

You're too old! It's all about the 'yoof' and their 'culcha'
that exists today, apparently.

I agree about the cringing though. The attitude that comes
with the mediocre music made from out of the box FL presets
just sounds purile and like the work of amateurs. Still if
kids buy it, they buy it.

Please do a list of your favourite grime artist so I can
check them out.

Maybe i should do a quick little mix? I have nothing better
to do today.

That's the thing, i don't get it either. It's those typical
"it's awesome live, but useless for at home with or without
headphones on" kind of musics to me. And they do sound
amaturistic at all times to me, no matter how good people
think the artist is i always get the sorta like the
"breakcore-monopoly" feeling. You should buy FLStudio it's
good for making fucked up grime beats, and everyone buys it
and makes grime.

I don't think it's shit, i just don't enjoy it as much as
other people do. Knowing myself there could be a handful of
songs that i'd really like ! But so far it's just below miss
really.

I never knew what it was and then when someone said it was
all done with presets I thought that sounded interesting but
then I don't remember being impressed so I don't know, I do
know I'm obviously FAR too old but I'd still like to hear
Dirty Priest's dirty, grimey little mix just so I know what
it is I am missing out on.

UK Rap, surely that spare plinth in Trafalgar Square should
be taken with a statue of Silver Bullet?

After a tiny bit of research I stumbled upon this gem

"if ya listen to the lyrics you'll see your chatting
shit
"

which teleported me back 20 years into school. Which I could
have done without.

Shall i leave out Dizzee Rascal, since everyones heard him
anyway?

I won't bother beatmatching or anything, it will just be a
collection of tracks that will enable you to make up your
minds for good.

There are far worse things than that...

Lethal Bizzle has actually made a track called "sometimes i
think".

Ill let that stand for a while.

Appreciate the mix DirtyMix, very much. I am clearly far too
old and not streetwise enough, I go with SheffieldBleep on
this.

All the time I was listening I had the urge to listen to Los
del Raver's Jimmy Crack Corn (Ruff As Fuck), though it's not Grime, .. I'm
confused, clearly. Clearly Confused.

nope, don't like it. The rappers sound amateurish, almost as
if they're taking the piss.

all genres of rap/hip hop made outside the usa is pointless,
it just depends on how retarded you are before you realize
that
