People on this site only use really expensive hardware,
obtained by stealing or bought by re-mortgaging their
houses. We're beyond dedicated to bedroom IDM.

I have been on the lookout for that particular piece of
warez for some time now. Suspiciously, I have downloaded it
about 15 times or so now, and each copy ends up being a
virus. I have never encountered a piece of software with a 3
to 1 infected to useable ratio, let alone a 15 to 0 one.

You know, Arturia wouldn't need to resort to leaking viruses
in order to combat piracy if they made their software
reasonably priced.

yes. i'd pay £40-£50 easy. but i think £100-£150 is a
bit fucking steep.

The perceived quality of a VST synth is in direct proportion
to its price. If Arturia priced their products too low
people might notice that there's freeware available
that kicks its ass.

I dissagree.

Not that there is freeware alternatives that are worthwhile.
If they lowered the pricepoint I firmly believe that they
would notice an increase in sales that counterbalances the
loss in profit from reducing the price of the software.

Low price / high quantity moves hamburgers but it doesn't
move prestige items. That's why DeBeers strictly limits the
diamond market - otherwise, they'd naturally be priced
cheaper by the market than other "precious" stones.

Arturia, like DeBeers, is in the business of selling
prestige.

I agree with fleet mouse on all the awesome freeware. My new
years resolution was to not crack software anymore, and for
a year I've done really good !

There are tons of alternatives, and it feels kind of cool.
Like being able to have a whole set up, that doesn't suck,
for FREE is really neat. Before it was hard because the lack
of software and the steep prices. Now it's all over the
place. And the pay stuff is pretty decent priced anyway. I
checked what FLstudio cost the other day, Man it;s cheap
!!!!! Like 45 bucks or something like that. I was very
impressed !

It's kind of cool !

Gone are the days of goldwave and retro AS synth :P

That's the "express" version of FL and it's a joke. The $200
producer edition is the one to have. Fortunately I bought it
when it was cheaper and get upgrayyeds 4 lyfe.

I understand what you are saying about arturia's business
model. I am just saying if they adopted a different business
model making their product more affordable they would
probably end up making more money.

Then again, it would inhibit them from making a $3000
computer with a touchscreen and marketing it as a
synthesizer.
