Forgive me for making obscure accusations, but has anyone
heard of an American IDM artist called Fluorescent Grey?

If so, would anyone agree that Amon Tobin sorta, well, not
'nicked', but utilised and made a lot of money out of the
idea of using water as percussion. This of course is
Fluorescent Grey's idea originally (to my knowledge at
least...)

Track 12: song made entirely out of water

More Fluorescent Grey

Tobin's Foley Room was released after Fluorescent Grey's ,
so it is possible.

Even if it's not true (I guess we'll never really know) I
would like to bring this artist to attention. He has his own
record label, makes interesting music and teaches electronic
music, so he is a pretty interesting and cool guy.

Check the geeza out!

Cornelius released Drop before both of those and many other
people had the idea before him I'm sure, it's bound to
happen with something as general as using water noises in a
rhythmic way. I even did a song using flushing toilets and
the like before both those releases you mentioned came out,
perhaps Fluorescent Grey and Amon Tobin should come round
and paint my house.

Well, have you heard "Water Music" by Toru Takemitsu? I
don't even know how old it is, but it's from tape
experimentation era. As much as I like Amon Tobin, I think
this track puts "Kitchen Sink" to shame,

Also, I refuse to listen to your tracks.

I didn't listen to them either so I'm not even sure we're
talking about the same thing.

I was actually refering to Tractern as "you". But I
recommend that piece by Takemitsu to you my friend as well.

I was sampling water in cups and using it for percussion
eight years ago. Doesn't mean that amon tobin was biting my
idea or anything.

haha- that is music inspired by water, not using it as an
instrument. =)

Great composer though.

Yeah, I thought people would prolly say water has been used
in this way for ages- jst wanted to see what would be said
about it.

And what is it about things I have said that makes you think
I am 12? =D

Oh, yeah- I forgot about Cornelius.

Not really used in the same way, but you are right. And I am
stupid for forgetting about that.

I'm sure he wasn't the first but doesn't Alex (The Orb)
Paterson say on the mini interview / sleeve notes of
"Artificial Intelligence" in response to "Where next?"
something like more beats made with water samples... I have
neither my vinyl or CD copy on this hemisphere.

Doesn't Fluorescent Meh owe everything to Ae, anyway?

Someone invented making music with instruments, and everyone
copied him.

It's a postmodern world. It's not about the quality of the
idea any longer, it's about the quality of how it's
executed.

Fluorescent Grey is not me.

How short-sighted and full of hatred are you, seriously?

I even said in the first post, I am not accusing anyone of
anything, and yet you still find cause to fault me and turn
everything toward saying you hate something? is this
something you feel the urge to do at least once a day? Hate
something? Pathetic.

You're not making a very good effort to not be "too mean".
You're infantile.

If you think it's a shit thread, fair enough, just say so
and move on.

QRDL, by refusing to listen to new tracks you're only
showing yourself to be narrow minded.

Just because your music isn't good enough to get you
anywhere, doesn't make you should act like a grumpy old man
and disdain everything by people more successful by
yourself.

been my work?

Is this not a fucking DIY electronic music forum?

Hypocrites.

so deep and plunging but more like rain and or hoses hitting
metal sheets and stuff.

Man I want to go swimming !

Yet you call the thread "Tobin the Thief"

I'm not making music myself, dear Grey. I do have some ideas
once in a while and quite often regret that I don't have the
patience to teach myself any music making software.
I refuse to listen to your tracks, because of your pathetic
attempts to be recognised and believe me, I have enough
other music I haven't listened to yet to fill me months and
months of lazy afternoons.

I am sorry for being a dickface, everyone. I say this
sincerely. I felt like a cock after what i said- I think I
was just having a bad day.

But believe me, I am not 'Grey'. If I was, don't you think I
would be proud of my stuff and would have posted it up here,
stating that I made it?

Also, dunno if anyone noticed, but I never post on any of
the musical equipment knowledge threads, like 'what is the
best Boss for...'. That's because, due to not being able to
make music, I have no knowledge on such matters. I admire
everyone on here for that.

Sorry for pissing people off (again) and I wish everyone a
pleasant tomorrow.
