I would die a happy man if we could get a well documented
human led mars landing mission within my lifetime.

GOD that would be so FUCKING COOL!

But seriously, as it says in the article, the snow is
evaporated long before it hits the ground, but this just
goes to show how little we really know about the universe
around us. I mean, this is the closest planet to us, a
planet which has been so often depicted as a barren desert
landscape, and

IT

FUCKING

SNOWS

THERE!

Who could have ever guessed that? And how far off are we
about well... everything else?

presently it would take 9 years to get there and back,
thats if they would do a u turn upon arrival. the only
reason they don't do it is money

we desperately need a new energy source and some
interstellar travel mechanism to go with it

well we've known mars had ice for some years now, so snow
isn't that far off. But it's still a cool idea when you
think about it; snow on an alien world.... it also said in
that article they want to record mars-sounds. Alien
sounds
. Sweet. I'll fire up the samplers for THAT shit.

We need a geek to be president already. Someone who will
reinvigorate the space program, legalize stem cell research,
eradicate all copies of any Star Wars film post-Jedi, and
demand funding for Joss Wheedon to create more Firefly
episodes.

Not to mention matter replicators and transporter beams.

Also a... Federation... of sorts.

What, you think the US military isn't already at work on
these things? Hell, they're only a few years away from a
visual cloak.

And a Federation...?

you know... a sort of... United Federation... of Planets...
and we could have a sort of... fleet? Yes, a Starfleet...

;p

(all of my hopes for the future are based on Star Trek, and
I mean that honestly.)

actually historically science fiction has been the most
accurate predictor of future advances in technology. take
the entire catalog of jules vern's works for instance. hell,
star trek voyager includes "cutting edge technology" in the
way of bioneural circuitry, which we aren't too far off from
either.

well the in ear copular device actually transmits to
implanted stuff in your ear. also jules vern is a great
author

what i mean is you can't predict a black swan..
and there will be many black swans in the future that will
change things around a lot.

some things you can expect because people have been working
on it and science fiction authors take ideas from current
developments, but truly one can never predict exactly what
its gonna be..
