what do you think? personally, i prefer between 45-50 mins
rather than 60-70 minute albums which drag on forever.

40-45 minutes of all-killer-no-filler or a double album
worth of nonsense.

45-50. yeah
even if it's bloody great it just dosn't suit me for it to
be much longer. why is that?

Vinyl is the best format for albums. CDs and MP3 encourage
track skipping and shuffling.
With vinyl you're more likely to listen to it in the order
it should be heard, which can't be a bad thing.

things i hate about vinyl albums:

flipping the record over spoils the flow, especially if its
a 2x12" album.

depending on the cutting engineer, it can sound like
complete ass if they try to fit a 60 minute+ album onto a
single 12". the brown pressing of SAW2 is a good example,
though in a way, the utterly butchered sound on this version
also has its own charms...

the usual vinyl limitations. tracks closer to the run-out
will always sound poorer than those on the outside of the
record, etc..

things i love about vinyl albums:

the artwork.

the smell.

depends on the style, like :

techno/electro : i like short records more (xpt : more songs
about food etc), so EPs works better for that style. maybe.
ambient/drones : huge tracks are appreciated (eno, pan
sonic)

around 40 is my personal preference. not to say i don't like
longer albums, but i generally get a little bored when it's
over an hour :S

albums that fill a CD and go for around an hour and twenty
minutes. you'll be listening to 40 minutes or so, which is a
good albums lenth, and you still have another half an hour.
it's insane.

you know, a good album is usually around 45-60 minutes,
thats fine.

but when artists like ae, murcof, sp, boc, plaid, bola or
any of my other faves come out with an album, i just would
like the most pressed into a cd as possible. which is like 1
hour 17 minutes right?

cause then after i hear it once i always skip around
anyway.. the more the better in that case..

Depends on the album and the flow of songs.

Slint's Spiderland has the perfect length.

Ergo the perfect length of a vinyl album is that of two CD
singles.

definitely 40 - 45 mins (i.e. a 12").

most good albums are ordered as two sides. Abbey Road is the
perfect example :)

Which also had a CD 2.... The Orb though, you'd be asking
"What is the perfect quadruple album length?"
