no this isn't a thread about cocks (thank you so much to
the uk xlters who taught me that vernacular btw)

so i've had my bitstream 3x midi controller for a number of
months now and fucking love it, but i've discovered that
after long sessions with it, my fingers tend to get a lil
sweaty and slippery and i will occasionally lose my grip on
one of the knobs.

is there anywhere online that i can buy replacement knobs
(just the knobs, i obviously don't need to replace the pots
on a 9 month old piece of hardware) that have a little more
grip? what kind of measurements do i need, and about how
much should this run me (there are 32 knobs altogether).

also, some color coding would be a plus, because finding the
one you want out of a 4x8 grid of identical knobs can be a
little haphazard in dimly lit areas.

Why not glue pieces of rubber tube to your knobs to make
them more tactile?

can you explain how you would do that?

i have considered this, however i'm mainly worried about how
well the rubber will stay on the knobs, as well as the fact
that it would make the knobs significantly wider, and the
finger space in the middle of the grid can already get a
little bit cramped.

man, knobs are friggin expensive. i think i may send out a
message on the interwebs and see if any of my friends in rl
want to do a knob swap of some kind.

it seems instead of different colors the best option would
be just different designs of knobs.

i've swapped the knobs from my oxygen 2 which i recently
molested and they feel much nicer in me hands, but
unfortunately the indicators face the opposite directions
which would just be way too trippy to deal with.

i think i gotta start digging through my back issues of make
magazine for this one.

wrap grip tape around the nobs......like the tape used to
wrap around the handle bars of racer cycles. cut it up thin
with scissors you can get diffrent colours too. or blue
tack blue tack is lovely blue and grippy and will serve you
well.

you missed the best one...

however i'm mainly worried about how well the rubber
will stay on the knobs

this always complicates things

impressive.

you manage to miss the second r every time.

and would someone please tell me another term to use instead
of knob so you all can know when i'm talking about your bell
ends and when i'm talking about twiddly midi thingies.

Yeah, I only used his first post. Noticed that one later but
figured I had derailed the thread bad enough and decided not
to use it.

haHA! i've figured it out!

rubber gromits are the key. i've always got a couple laying
around since they fit both of my bongs, so i picked one up
and it fits perfectly. it requires such a light touch now,
lovely.

also, i figured to swap some of the sliders from my hardware
mixers, and i'm pleased with that too. instead of the
teeeeeeny tiny crossfader slider that it comes with i now
have a big fat black one.

so i went a bit crazy last night and started pulling knobs
and sliders of all my gear last night and really went to
town swapping them all around to get the right, and i'm
quite pleased with the result.

my controller has gone from this somewhat vanilla design...

exactly. i've just been sitting with it in my lap twiddling
the knobs without it even being connected to a computer
because it feels so much nicer now.

also i finally delved into the different ways to program the
controller and boy howdy is it sweet. being able to change
the curve the pot follows, switching up buttons between
toggle and push on the fly, and all sorts of other stuff.

i feel like i'm just learning to ride a bike and finally
took my training wheels off.

He doesn't even have to be at the computer to do it. He
just twiddles with his knob in his lap and it feels very
nice.
