my theory: high concentration of musical composition in NES
music compensated for lack of sound quality

i liked a lot of nintendo games sndtrks, but it's very hard
to pick a few let alone one. mario 3, metroid, zelda,
there's so many...i think i'm going to have to check some
old school nintdo e-zine to get some sugestions.

i could be wrong, but 4 some reason most new video game
music seems musically simpler (as in musical notes,
orchestration, composition, etc) compared to the music in
the older games.

i'm not exactly sure on that. i've noticed that music for
video games nowadays are being composed by bands rather than
"hollywood" composers/score-ers. fyi, Haujobb is making the
soundtrack for a new x-box game, pretty interesting...

Good topic Pachi. Let's see... I like the music on Super Spy

Akujamo Dracula, the Japanese Castlevania 3. It makes ALL
other NES music sound like crap, I swear. It used some
special chip that the US verion didn't have, makes it sound
unbelievable for an NES game.

ALL the NES Castlevanias put other NES games to shame,
musically!

All the Mega Man games had great soundtracks! Mega Man 2 and
3, especially. And Maniac Mansion... and Batman, especially
the first stage! Hardcore kickass NES rock.

Heat Man's level sounds like IDM! Spark Man, Bubbleman,
Snakeman, Flash Man, Metal Man, Quick Man, Gemini Man... I
can still hum just about any tune for those old games. :-)

hmmm
Legend of Zelda majora's mask soundtrack is much better than
ocarina, as is the game. I particularly like the music
coming on as the huge stone stautes come to life at the end
of the game with some kind of mysterious moaning synth pad
that's pretty cool. I would tell you the name of the track
but my import cd is in korean or japanese, I don't know. But
it has a lot of good tracks if you like game music.
I also like super mario 64 but only the music in the haunted
house mostly kind of dark and sinister.
Also some of the classics like donkey
kong,robotron,galaga,tron.

You are all obviously very young, in comparison with me...
Anyone knows who Rob Hubbard or David Whittaker are?

Zelda's music sounds a bit like Richard Wagner in 8 bits.

Hubbard is good. I also like Martin Galway.
I started out with electronic music doing bleepy tracks on
my commodore 64 back in the days..
