there's a pretty big difference between "I don't really like
animal suffering" and "I really don't like animal suffering"

I just left off an "I" at the beginning of the sentence. And
now you hate me for all I am, and all im worth :(

Like youve never been in a group with your friends (sorry,
cancel that) or in a group with your co-workers (do you at
least work mate) and the topic is about animal cruelty and
said "dont really like animal suffering" w/out saying the
"I" in front? We are different PORICK, but I still find a
place in my heart for you.

You're such a fucking retard.

I wasn't pointing out that you'd left out the "I".

Re-read what I wrote.

It would have been if I had been criticising him about
leaving out the "I" (which there's nothing wrong with), but
what he wrote had a completely different meaning to what he
should have written.

Person A: "I don't really like techno."

Person B: "I really don't like techno."

Person A doesn't mind it, but isn't too keen on it. Person B
doesn't like it at all.

So, what you said originally was that you don't really have
a problem with animal suffering, but that you weren't really
into it either.

i usually find it more annoying when someone points out a
slight language error than the initial error itself.

also, in america it is generally acceptable to seem more
casual about something you may feel strongly about.
actually, euphemisms are often socially preferred to strong
statements.

for instance, someone asks what you thought of their
presentation..

"yea, we decided to go a different way with that," would be
much more common than, "we didn't like what you did and are
going to use someone else."

so, if someone were to say "you know, I don't really like
animal suffering," to another american, they may just reply
"yep, not so into that myself," while casually shaking their
head.

Is your problem that he doesn't seem to hate animal cruelty
enough?
Or is it that he failed to convey his distaste, like you
know he really hates animal cruelty from previous
discussions that have taken place, but that he didn't spell
it out that way recently, suggesting that his ideas on the
subject were not intirely dedicated to a focused opinion?
Both are a bit gay

XLT loves their grammar.

Over time I realized "proper grammar" is the crutch of
forum trolls, not hinting you or anything PORICK , in
general it usually leads to this conclusion. Most people on
the net are trying to speak english because it is not their
first language to begin with.

I on the other hand, absolutely do not give a shit if my
grammar is good on a music forum because it's not a cover
letter for a job, business proposal, or thesis. The fact
that I'm a bit taller then people, my hands always press the
wrong keys, so for me, I could not care less because I'm not
going to try to articulate something that by virtue of it's
context doesn't even need to be. There are few people that
are in positions that they require irrefutable oversight of
grammatic usage.

I never really understood how this could be such an
inconvenience for someone. Are these people blind ? Because
then I could imagine if they cannot have words read back to
them properly, or maybe they have a sickness or something?

Here's a nice euphemism:
I got my cat 'fixed'.
means
I got my cat broken.
That's like saying oh Jim just became alive today as a
euphemism for he died.

this 'you know what he means so who cares' argument isn't a
very good one.

so because we're on a messageboard language doesn't matter
as much? what a hopelessly stupid thing to say. there are
people who learn english from reading these threads.

it's rather sad how it's mostly americans complaining about
'grammar nazis'. it's pretty embarrassing to see how it's
usually them fucking up their native language over and over
again. there's scandinavians on this board with a better
grasp of english than you sorry cunts. wake the fuck up.

my english isn't as good as i'd like it to be (the lack of
caps in my posts is sheer laziness) but i still love the
language and i enjoy seeing others being creative with it.
reading beautiful english can be like listening to beautiful
music. seems like this is something incomprehensible to many
of the people who posted in this thread.

fuck you language haters. fuck off and take your mumblings
with you.

.

personally, i don't give a fuck. xlt isn't a thesis and i'm
not aiming for a pulitzer with my posts. unless someones
grammar is bastardised to the point where you cannot
understand a thing they say (and i'm on a few forums with
people exactly like that) then i'm not gonna worry ONE BIT.

offline AMPI MAX from United Kingdom on 2008-09-20 07:19 [#02238729]

this isn't about grammar is it?
"i don't really like animal suffering" isn't bad grammar,
just a less adamant way of saying "i really don't like
animal suffering". Both are fine irl so why is xlt so
special. This 'recycle is a fucking tard for not speeking
rite' thread is bollicks.
i don't really like this thread < CHECK FOR BAD GRAMMAZ

I shouldn't really post in this thread, but I'm going to.

Aengus, you're a good bloke and a nice guy, but some times
you come across as a real fuck-head. This is one of those
times.

plenty of good and nice blokes in here but some are missing
the point entirely.

if one can get away with saying what recycle said, as if it
means the same as what he had probably intended to say,
where do you draw the line? and i'm not saying it's
offensive (which it is) but that it looks completely wrong,
and stupid.

at one point it stops making sense, it stops being english
and it starts making one look like a complete fucktard. we
can assume that most of us are at least moderately
intelligent and more than capable of conversing in a normal
way, as opposed to taking the least amount of effort to
construct a decent sentence.

i know people will hate me for all this but see if i care.

thad, you're ok. i know you mean well, but lately you come
across as a teenage troll with a mental disorder and i
wonder why, since you haven't always been like this.
