I know I've come to the right place to ask this..

right now I have a fast track pro. I don't like it.
I don't like having to HAVE to use XLR male inputs (of which
there are only two.. (I don't even know if they can be used
at the same time?)
It's limited to 24 bit and 96000 which seems to be
inaccessible most of the/all of the time for some reason.

anyway.. I'm recording on a laptop. I have issues with
having to have the highest possible quality and bit depth
even though I can't tell the difference. I'm looking for
something that will allow me to record multiple inputs/(a
keyboard and a mic, eg) at the same time.. if there are any
with 1/4" inputs or even RCA, that's a major plus.

anyone have anything to suggest?

well, although I'm sure it's no help to you, I had a fast
track Pro and it was also shite. It never worked properly,
and I bought it brand new. M-audio's customer care was well
below what I consider par, but to be fair I was dealing with
them via their e-mail help service and not thru the normal
telephone channels.

M-audio is releasing the Profire 610 soon, and it uses the
same internals as a Profire 2626 (which is supposedly very
nice) in a scaled-down package. It has everything the fast
track pro has with the addition of firewire (faster than USB
2.0) and better preamps. At $399USD, it does cost about
twice as much as the fast track pro, but the difference
seems to be a broken product vs. a good product, or so the
music store people tell me.
