Fellas,

Tomorrow I am DJing at a magazine launch, who have asked me
to do a strict ambient and jazz set. Here are my choices so
far:

Ambient:
Stars of the Lid - And their refienment of the decline
Brian Eno - Discreet Music + Music for Airports + Music for
films
Aphex Twin - S.A.W. 85-92 + S.A.W. 2
Colleen - The golden morning breaks + Everyone alive wants
answers
A few odd bits from BOC, Christ, Squarepusher, Autechre
etc.

Jazz
Dizzy Gellespie - Have trumpet, will excite
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue + Water Babies
Twin Peaks OST
Thelonious Monk - Straight, no chaser
Jack Kerouac - Piano and Poem Pieces

PLEASE TELL ME MORE STUFF. I feel dangerously low on
records...

kind of a weird blend of music you got going there... all
good stuff but it just seems like it would be strange for a
magazine launch...

some ambient recommendations (pretty much my two favorite
ambient albums):

Steve Roach- Midnight Moon
Tomas Koner- Teimo/Permafrost

Koner might be a little too dark overall, but the tracks
"Teimo" and "Serac" might work ok.. Brian Eno- Ambient 4 (on
land) is also terrific ambience, as is the album Apollo
Atmospheres and Soundtracks

let us know how the set turns out ;p

there is no force in magic, this is pretty straightforward,
even the techno people have heard that.

Got those Enos, but I wanted to have it as wide ranging as
possible. Will get some more Jazz essentials and will check
out those Ambient choices. Thanks guys, keep them coming.

asking here?

Well i thought so, too. But they were keen for me to do it.

Horsefactory: Its only a start, like. Plus I don't know how
long they want me to play for, to be honest.

laid back jazz where you can play to anyone and they'll
appreciate it is.

Ahmad Jamal at the Pershing:But Not for Me

i used it as walkin music for many gigs although there is
one hard tune on there.

so if you get stuck and not to sure of what the audience
wants whack that on and layer some ambient over it in the
back ground.

Jazz related:
Chicago Underground
Isotope 217
Tortoise
Exploding Star Orchestra
Robert Mazurek
The Bad Plus

Some of that should have enough of an ambient reference to
blend in.

Also, go on itunes though and check out some of the modern
jazz collections they have.

If they are paying you ahead of time, play whatever you
want.
