I have the right to feel a bit pissed off when I buy a cd
on ebay described as new and it comes with a hole in the
barcode on the insert cover that the seller failed to
mention at all, right? Just checking....

I think they do that with promotional records sendt to
record stores etc. so they cant't sell it, at full price
anyway. The cd and cover is completely intact but it's a
matter of principal. For your information I payed 6$ for it,
new, unused cd released in 1996. "Earth Loop" by Chimera.
Etheral shoegaze kind of music.

Send him a message and tell him that its not new, then tell
him you sent him the message because you wanted to know what
he wanted to do about the situation before you left him
feedback. More than likely hell offer you a nice discount,
if he offers for you to return the item, say you already
opened the cd and dont want to waste your time driving to
the post office and would prefer a discount.

I bought a CD on ebay once and the disc had this big hole in
the middle of it. Seller made no mention of it at all -
disgraceful.
It was right in the middle and big enough to poke my finger
through! Caveat emptor indeed!

The CD IS new, it's just a promo. It can go from the label
to the shop to you or from the label to a promoter to you -
not much difference. Still, you can always ask for a refund
if a hole punch in the bottom corner of a CD rear inlay is
ruining your life.

i don't get this. i think where you went wrong was in A)
thinking a cd released in 1996 was new, and B) stating
having a completely intact bar code was a prerequisite of
purchase.

to be honest if B) is the be all and end all, why not just
colour photo copy the thing and just draw on the missing
parts of the bar code in black crayon?

on the internet you're supposed to act like you're better
than you are

Chill out folks! No, this is not going to haunt me till my
dying day but I still feel that the seller in question
didn't act according to common decency of internet shopping.
But it's not that big a deal, really. Instead of complaining
to the seller I figured I'd ask around here about what you
think since I thought that maybe some of you actually
collect records. I'm new to ebay anyway, so what do I know?
The thing is, when I'm offered an item for only 4$ and I
pass on it because it has a hole in the code, decide to pay
2$ more to a different seller since he says nothing about
such a flaw on his item and then end up with one anyway, I
feel slightly irritated as a record collector.

Wouldn't you?

I meant to say common decency of internet trading, not
shopping. Sorry.

if you are pissed off as a costumer imagine being a label
and watching bastards passing off promo copies of the discs
you sent them to review as 'new' cds for sale at discogs and
ebay. there are a few reviewers in particular who almost
seem to do it as a 'fuck you' like don't send your music
here anymore because im just going to turn around and sell
it.

note: there are some reviewers out there who seem genuinely
strapped for cash and will give a cd a nice review but then
sell it anyways! so i can't fault the practice entirely of
selling a promo.

import exceed in some contries, are destroyed via saw or
nailing with the intention of crakc the tape or the cd, then
the the result is sended to other coutries as rubbish ...
china.
The process of destroying dosen't mean all are!!
undamaged being again injected to the market
