My cousin had a project for her sound design course to
record cave ambiance, so we went to the island and found
some caves!

Can't post pics, but check these out!

Looks brilliant. It has been many many years since I last
went caving and the whole aesthetics both visually and
sonically are brilliant. Some fantastic reverb!

I thought screaming would carry through the cave, but after
a couple turns, you can't hear a fucking thing, just pure
silence.

When I went off to explore a bit by myself, I experienced a
state of calmness I've never have before. It's not like the
silence you hear at home when nothings on. Or at night when
theres no more cars. I can't explain it.

At the entrance to the cave, you could feel the cool air
coming out of it. And after coming out after a few hours, it
feels like you just stepped foot into a tropical jungle.
Crazy.

I felt a bit claustrophobic in some parts, where you had to
get on your stomach and pull yourself in, but the thing that
scared me most was cave crickets. They look identical to
spiders, and they're huge. Weren't many in this cave though.

The cave with all it's crystal formations still intact was
shut down cause it took us too long to get there. But this
cave was still great. Next time I'll see all sorts of crazy
stuff in the bigger cave.

Ever since a good friend of mine went caving about 8 years
ago and regaled me with the tale of his experience, I've
wanted to go, myself.

Great pics, glad you had fun Gwely.

Caves can be pretty spectacular. We have some nice caves in
the western cape. Most famously there are the Cango Caves
near Oudtshoorn, which are pretty big. The difference
there is that you step out into the desert. Bright as hell!
Accustoming like a new born baby.
