I dunno if any of you use their stuff or even care but. I
decided to try out the prophet & Jupiter plug ins on my mac.
I didn't have the dongle for the prophet so fuck that...
and after installing the demo of the Jupiter program every
application i try to open asks for my user password. Thanks
assholes

lil usb stick they make you stick in the run software so no
ones steals it.

challenge/response is far less annoying.

you'd be surprised at how many morons call tech support
because their pirated software isnt working.

dongles aren't just USB

they can be any kind of hardware that interfaces with the
computer so that a piece of software can work

be it a PC, a Macintosh, an Atari or a Commodore or Amiga

Sorry, yes the USB stick that authorizes the software. I
can understand the software makers concern about piracy.
But the hoops you have to jump through to use your legit
copy is getting ridiculous & time consuming.

I know one of my friends had an issue with his legit copy of
Ableton that pretty much ended with a meltdown over the
phone.

but my main issue is the fact that somethings fishy with
their DEMO... I'm re-installing OSX b/c I don't trust all of
these OS and 3rd party applications asking me for my system
password... bad news bears.

yea, like pro tools needs their hardware interfaces for the
software to work/function. Although they're connected by
USB Firewire or PCI/PCIe

imagine the hilarity: a company like arturia goes, "ok, to
ease your pain - we now have switched to wireless bluetooth
dongles. you no longer have to plug anything in. it just has
to be within 20 feet of the computer"

and then a bunch of musicians just move in together!

the companies shoot themselves in the foot with that
technology anyway. what if your shit's broke right before a
gig because of an authorisation difficulty - and you've
legally purchased and are licsensed to use the software? the
piracy

bioware and EA are doing this shit with video games now to
"fight" piracy - where you can only install the game 3
times, and then you've got to renew your license. i think
that game spore and mass effect (PC) do that

you might want to repair permissions on a daily basis,
especially after installing something new

yes it was the demo version of the software I was going to
buy... but fuck it now. the DEMO fucked up my machine.
They have buy one fake synth get one fake synth free
promotion going on. I don't want to be bothered with the
USB stick... or any of that shit.

And my friend had a legal copy of ableton live as well... so
whoever said i was d/l illegal shit can go fuck themselves
too.

if you're that sure that a demo fucked up your machine you
should make an official complain to arturia. i doubt that it
could be possible so it could be something faulty on your
side, did you ever repaired permissions on your machine for
example? which version of leopard do you have if you have
leaopard installed? are you aware of the permission issues
of Leopard versions prior to 10.5.4 update..

I've installed 2 different apps a prior week and did not
have this issue at all. But all of a sudden as soon as i
put the demo on, reason, office, and iphoto were all asking
for passwords

it sounds like a system issue more than something that has
to do with the app itself. the fact the you discovered the
problem after you installed the arturia demos does not
automatically mean that they fucked up your mac unless they
contained malware, which is an illegal behaviour even if you
install a cracked app, and could get a developer into
serious troubles. the mac versions of those synths have not
been cracked yet, and the demo seems to be worky so.. now
that you did a clean install of the system it might be a
good idea to make routine maintenance of you machine, to do
not mess with permissions and be up to date with all the
shit that Apple brings to our computers since the first
release of Leopard.
