I need some better headphones. I work on music with the ones I have and think I have a decent mix, until I hook up to monitors and then certain tracks are either way out in front or way too quiet.

it's generally not a good idea to mix on headphones anyways, because for tru-bass® you should really listen to stuff through proper monitors because as we all know (or should know), sound requires air to travel through
anyways, what the fuck do i know? my music is shit
work in whatever way gets you results
but you say that you're not happy with thre results you get from mixing on headphones, so get some better ones (the more expensive the better, spend a quarter of a thousand million on headphones and then you'll be almost there)

there are some headphones which are actually designed to be used as mastering headphones. my friend has a pair and he absolutely swears by them. they're really small earbuds that fit real nicely and can get loud as fuck without anyone but the listener noticing.

could you not tell that i was being sarcastic with my drop of the trademarked tru-bass®?
:p
honestly, it is a personal preference
if you love mixing with headphones and get good results, then i'm jealous of you - i can't mix on headphones for shit. i require the SPLs to resonate through a few feet of air before smacking my musicdunghole and making my ears cum
so yeah, headphones work for some people, and don't work for others :)
of course my attempts at humor are always tru-shit®

lol
if you bought them to make a fashion statement, then you haven't been had. i hear that the large "old-school" look headphones are back in fashion, and even if you're not listening to the sweet banging, hip gyratin' tunes from Teh A-fecks Tuhwinz, you will still get some sweet-dripping pussy hanging from every dong you have.
but if you really wanted to do some serious work on your headphones, then i really honestly don't know....personal preference and all
:p

im forced into using headphones atm, i got beyerdynamics which are good for bass compared to other headphones, but i feel the music doesnt get as much punch and depth as my tapco monitors at home.
but on the other hand my mixes become clear on the headphones, but i do tend to have a bit too loud volume, and more bass than usual, when mixing on them.
speakers > headphones imo

for me personally, i prefer mixing on monitors generally, but when i'm trying to get panning just right, i'll switch to headphones
but i would really love to experience music through a surrogate dog.

it's sometimes dangerous to mix with headphones, cus they makes things sound tighter than they really are, my neighbours recently moved out, so i have been cranking up my event alp 5s they pack a punch for thier size, but i like switching to my hd 270s to get close 0(^_^)0

should have got yourself BeyerDynamics 100 or 150, which are industry standard.
btw, whoever does main mix on headphones doesnt understand what main mix is about.
