Recommend easiest free midi sequencer?

Please can someone recommend a midi sequencer for me that i
can download legally for free. The thing is i want it to be
totally intuitive and simple to use. I don't mind totally
limited features. What i'm after is the traditional keyboard
appearing on the left vertically, with time along the x axis
with notes appearing as horizontal lines that can be
doctored or even drawn. so a note editor, a bar/arrangement
editor too, a bunch of midi tracks for different
instruments, and that's about it. to write simple tunes and
parts for my basic synth setup *without* millions of tiny
windows and vst's and all that good stuff. just basic atari
amiga stylee but for a pc. i have downloaded dozens but
nothing quite hits the mark. any suggestions s'il vous
plait? or maybe this is the chance to fill up the board with
more irrelevant trash, i leave it to you... thanks in
advance.

bogus
it had more info 8 or 10 years ago?

thanks for the suggestion, this seems to have waaay more
than i want. i just want to write e.g drum beat, bassline,
leadline, harmony, chords e.g 5 x midi instrument
tracks/channels sequenced & arranged. nothing more really,
no audio multitracking, no vst's, no wav action, simple
1980's technology style, just midi notes and velocity, nice
big buttons, few menu's not many functions but the essential
ones. cut and paste and quantize. b.a.s.i.c.
the nearest i found was in traditional musical notation but
i hold the record for worlds slowest at that.

i don't think it gets any more basic than garage band -they
make that so that kids can use it

thanks
i think garageband is for mac, i am only pc (sorry)
gonna go back to my yamaha qx21 :(

i think it's incredible that you can torrent ableton or
cubase yet i can't find a damn basic piano roll style midi
sequencer

i tried anthony worrall thompson but he has something nasty
where the midi port should be... there's nothing wrong with
being ugly, you can still get the best women it's all down
to charm. pretty people are scared of ugly peoplectually an
advantage

i just stumbled on this.

sounds like it could be what you're looking for.

"MidiSwing is a very lightweight, minimalist MIDI sequencer.
There’s not a whole lot of fiddling to do with MidiSwing
because of its simplicity, which means the geek in you will
be disappointed but you’ll be able to get to work quicker,
and get more done. Perhaps this is the kind of interface you
need to compose your tune before importing it into a more
complicated sequencer—if you’re the type who fiddles
with synthesizers for a few hours before writing a single
note, this might solve your productivity problems.

MidiSwing is a Java-based app, so it runs on any system with
Java 5 support, and even supports .kar Karaoke MIDI files
(if you’re into that kind of thing!)."
