been full boar into Urban Tribe and Drexciya lately
(especially the UT stuff on rephlex); I've been told I need
to get some UR. should I pick up this Interstellar
Fugitives disc? what are some of the "must haves" while I'm
on this 2nd and 3rd wave detroit techno bit?

for previews of a lot of underground resistance material,
check beatport.
personally, i have a hit/miss relationship with UR. both
interstellar fugitives compilations are good. the first one
is more consistent, but the second one has some better
stand-out tracks imo. both give a good idea what you can
expect from 3rd wave detroit. also good is the electronic
warfare 2.0 disc. although not particularly well-received in
the press, i think it's a grower and therefore a bit
underrated.
but as i said, best thing is to check out beatport and
choose the album with the most first impression good tracks.
later on, you're bound to love the rest as well.

the final frontier never gets old for me, one of my
favourites of evers. interstellar fugitives, I've only heard
the first one, but it's well worth getting.
inspiration/transition are good as is most of the stuff on
the high tech jazz compilation, especially the title track
and journey of the dragons... there's loads of UR I'm yet to
hear too, will check that electronic warfare one.

wow; SO MUCH UR in the digital download stores...

I'm going to pick up the Submerge release of the UR comp.

what the hell. the preview tracks playing for the
interstellar fugitives compilation on submerge are TOTALLY
different from the actual tracks (which can be heard if you
listen to the tracks on the underground resistance label
release). what the bloody hell

My faves:

Electronic Warfare (two words: 'The Illuminator')
Acid Rain 1
Living For The Nite
Message To The Majors
The Final Frontier
Windchime
Galaxy 2 Galaxy (this has has a recent 2CD album and has a
load of brilliant tracks on it, including the best version
of 'First Galactic Baptist Church')

There are loads of artists on the actual UR label and
chances are that if it was released before 2000, they are
worth buying. Oh and don't forget to check out the Red
Planet stuff too, which is easily just as good as any of the
releases I listed above.

son of a bitch.

I bought a digital download of the submerge UR comp (in
FLAC) from www.necodo.com - 4 of the tracks timed-out while
downloading and now the temp links expired. I've only got
11 of the 15! bah. I hate waiting for support to email me
back...

I REALLY like the samples of Electronic Warfare 2.0, as well
as the Codebreakers release.

goDel: for UR previews the best place seems to be
www.necodo.com - organized properly and easy to flip beween
tracks. if only their download manager was as reliable =/

I regard all UR as being essential though. Over time it
blossoms and drops seeds in your mind that make you embrace
it and you love it and love it and love it.

UR.

goDel: they've got 50+ UR releases... everything in mp3 and
flac, a little under a US dollar per track.

so weird... the preview tracks for the submerge (15 track)
comp are wrong EVERYWHERE. juno, beatport, amazon digital,
etc. they're not even UR tracks.
