R.I.P. Lowlands Distribution 30.05.2008 Bad news from the Belgian platenwereld: Lowlands, for years one of the sterkhouders as adventurous distributor of music, underscores the bijltje content with this. That the bad with the platenverkoop has long been no news anymore. Also Lowlands longer with back problems all sales, retail disappearing and the shift from physical to digital medium. In recent months went to the Lowlands rapidly from bad to worse, thus necessarily an end was made famous by the distributor. Lowlands The association was founded in 1993 in Antwerp by Tom De Weerdt, a sociologist who recently graduated student thesis had been built around the theme avant-gardemuziek. Free-jazz, experimental electronics, improvisation, musique concrète, ... Basically the kind of music that at that time was hardly available in Belgium. De Weerdt took his studies after the heft in his own hands and started with importing and distributing all sorts of experimental music in our region. What initially started as a small eenmansoffensief, grew gradually became one of the largest independent distributors in the Benelux countries, which includes both national and international adventurous music to the man revealed. Over the years stampte Lowlands also an eight sublabels from the land which together several hundred releases paper. Belgian artists like Buscemi, DJ 4T4, Vive La Fête, Shameboy, Nid & Sancy, Maskesmachine, Bunny, Briskey, Eavesdropper, Eric Powa B, Geert Waegemans, .. found there over the years shelter. If Lowlands record label would still remain, but on a smaller scale than before. |
