Yes my broken snare drum leaks. How much do you reckon for a
repair?

This is the first Venetian Snares album I've ever heard and
after skipping through a few tracks I can safely say that
there is absolutely no violins. This is straight yet manic
'acid drum and bass' and it sounds very much like something
that could have been released on Rephlex or even be made by
Richard D James. Those MEN releases pops up in my mind for
some reason..... Detrementalist - the title - of the album
could be just as well have been junglist. Yes, that's what
this is: Jungle!

that's VS for ya...

Strings are to him what piano was to RDJ circa Drukqs, in
other words a much-needed distraction.

Ok...

As I said, I've never ever listened to anything by VS
before. I imagined his music to be more dark and industrial
than this acid jungle stuff. I even look forward to listen
more closely to this tomorrow...

Is it true that this is his 332nd official studio album, or
is that just an attempt at being funny about the large
volume of records VS has produced?

And sorry about the bad grammar in my previous post...

If you've heard one VS album - I was going to say:
"...you've pretty much heard them all", but that sounds too
harsh.

But based on your description and the samples I've heard,
this album is a fairly typical example of the kind of sounds
Venetian Snares has to offer.

There are some more obscure releases, collaborations and
such, which sound more noise-inspired and even industrial,
but that's certainly not the norm. Then, of course, there's
a few of those orchestrated albums (among my favourites,
too) that came out in the last couple of years. But his
sound is consistently "drill and bass" or "breakcore" or
whatever you want to call it.

I'm actually looking forward to this album, even though it
isn't his 332nd album - he's prolific, yea, but not
Merzbow-prolific.

imo, the only two inspired albums he's done are Songs about
my cats and Rossz.... everything else is good but its just
more of the bloody same.

Another of the more standard VS releases. Not without
enjoyable moments though.
Actually I found it easier to listen through this one than
"My downfall" which was garbage imo.

for a good album. I know he's made his fair share of crap
but he comes out with some real gems every now and again

Hey, I like this album a lot! A pleasant surprise after a
few years of boredom.

I haven't enjoyed a VS album like this since "Rossz" back in
the day. This album doesn't have as much variety as that
album, though. This is just pure drill and bass madness. But
so far so good! When the breaks are done right and the
energy is at place, everything flows smoothly.

At 51 minutes, this is more than an EP padded with a couple
of fillers (unlike a few of his recent outings). In fact,
the album only gets better towards the end. There's some
mayhem tracks here. What gerbik said, plus we shouldn't
forget Miss Balaton.

Detrimentalist is not going to win Venetian Snares many new
friends, since it doesn't break (get it?) much new ground,
and those who haven't enjoyed his releases so far shouldn't
even bother, but as far as Aaron Funk albums go, this one
is, yes, cock solid.

It launches in my top 5, although probably not in the top 3.

i wonder if snares is tired of breakcore and wants to write
classical, and just released this as a concession to fans
*if* it's new material, it doesn't have the ingenuity of
old, imo
at least compared to when he was first innovating in the
genre
i'm a snares fan but i only really *loved* bebikukorica
nigiri

I'm a big venetian snares fan. I haven't heard the album
fully yet but I do like 3 or 4 tracks that I've heard from
live sets. The samples up at planet-mu don't really do much

Listened to it. More mayhem. It's ok, but I've heard better
from him years ago, and this just seems to be doing the
same thing with those good old breaks mushups and cheesy
samples. I used to get annoyed when people said he repeated
himself, but really, I've realised the error of my ways
these days.
