I'm looking for an 1.5hr mix (or several mixes) of ambient tracks........ minimal, preferably beatless, not too dark........ for use in my yoga classes. The usual "new age" stuff drives me insane! Flutes, melancholy repetitive piano etc etc. Every yogi I know has terrible taste in music!
In exchange, I will provide free yoga classes (if you can make it to Adelaide, Australia!) and my best wishes.
I'm listening to The Black Dogs "You Are Strange Mix" and I think it would work nicely. (Ken, feel free to do another one, and yes, I have part 2).
Richard, Sean and Rob, by all means, have a go. :)

He he, I can imagine....
Aphex Twin - "Tha" from SAWI must be perfect, even if there's some beat...

burzum - Rundgang um die transzendentale Saule der Singularitat
25 minute track, perfect for meditation/breathing excersises/yoga.
IMO
It is sort of dark, but it depends on how you interpret it.
I mean, it was made by a murderer while in prison.. beside the point.

made before the average xltronian was made, but still great. one of my faves, but incredibly short is "trancentral lost in my mind". that melody will haunt you the rest of your life. same goes for the wichita lineman track.

cool. I go to classes at two studios, one with music, one without. Each has it's pro's and cons. I don't have music when I teach, mainly because it all sucks dogs balls. I want to see if i can get something working with ambient electronica.

yeah he did death metal for awhile, got in an argument with the label guy as to whether it should be satanic or norse godish, and killed him. he burned some churches too. once in prison, he started doing minimal ambiance. its an interesting turn. and the music speaks for itself.

Brian Eno "Thursday Aternoon"
It's a beautiful record and must be perfect for yoga
This review says it all:
"Music cannot get more innocuous than this. It is so ambiguous and dissarming that it's impossible to either love or hate with any degree of intensity. Everybody who has a pair of ears simply cannot dislike this music as it is completely harmless. It won't sweep you away with a euphoric wave, but neither will it annoy your ears with jarring or uncomfortable sounds. Great background music to play, when you are lying in bed thinking, or reading, but it won't gather you into its sounds and evoke deep emotive feelings. This is all very gentle and listener-friendly, to the point where you may not even notice it was on at all. I particulalry enjoyed one reviewer's comments on RYM about this record where he states that 'I completely forgot to listen to it and if you like this release you will also like listening to the CD lens cleaner.' I thought that was a funny and cleverly (exaggerated) description of Eno's music (exaggerating, obviously to prove a point.) but nonetheless strangely accurate. This is simply inoffensive, unobtrusive piano notes and synthesiser moods that could just as easily been called.....well anything, although, I think this sounds more like a Tuesday Afternoon."
