my computer automatically shuts down completely on random intervals, especially when i make effect laden music.
is it the psu, heating or can it be software? it basically just turns off completely the power.

:S Sounds like the CPU could be overheating. We had this at school a number of times when the IT department didn't have the air conditioning on.

download speedfan and keep watching your temperatures. See if the shutdowns have anything in common.

speed fan is inacurate compared to coretemp ( by 10+ degreees)
coretemp is free too and is what most overclockers use .
you need to know what your max temp should be under full load
( otherwise its pointless watching a temp prog)
you need a prog that can give you full load on
prime 95 << is free. and is what overclockers use
you might need to tune your bios.
run prime and it will show you if your machine is tuned o.k
but you must run coretemp at the same time in the same window and watch it very closely.
eg. my P4 processor shouldnt go past 70 degrees runing at full load.
you need to know what your max temp should be under full load
