Ugh, what was I thinking...?

Dig back into your music collection. Is there any album/CD
you enjoyed when you were younger that you've since wondered
why you liked it in the first place?

Example: I recently spun an old Skinny Puppy record of mine
(Vivisectvi, or something) that made me want to toss it out
the window. I used to find the vocal effects from them cool
(in a dark way), but this time I was cracking up laughing
instead.

What about some of the noise beat stuff later on the album?

yeah, actually i love Puppy's instrumentals (like "Punk in
Park Zoo"), as well as ones from the other albums.

I was really young but i thought korn were the nuts. So
deep, so angry....

altho i do still have a soft spot for both of their debut

sometimes i throw in puppy and i remember why i loved them
and see how influential they were on current stuff. then
other times i am just rolling my eyes. overall i still like
most of their classic stuff.

Liked a lil bit of soulfly, coalchamber (lol), nin, ect. I
wasn't even in highschool. This all feels like someone elses
life now.
Do you remember coalchamber (bigtruck)

I think the change in opinion for me with Skinny Puppy came
after I discovered Aphex and Autechre, which sounded fresher
and more exciting compared to the "industrial" bands at the
time.

ive gotten out of stuff, sold cds, and then kicked myself
later when i wanted to go back to it. there was a time when
i renounced anything w a traditional structure and only
listened to nurse with wound type stuff. fortunately that
phase was short lived.

im at a time right now where i am all about going back to
stuff. watching ministry videos on youtube, downloading old
synthcore trx etc.

Neurosis, but I confess that parts of "Through Silver in
Blood" and "Times of Grace" still appeal to me.

yeah, in recent months I've re-re-evaluated Industrial and
have found some good stuff. Front 242 and Severed Heads are
two of my all-time faves.

Some of it sounds like precursors to the music I enjoy
today.

haha yep. korn. though they did sound pretty cool to an 8
year old, so im not really questioning my taste in music
back then or anything.
i did get into a pretty big 'blur' phase, including buying
shitloads of their albums and singles. i still like some of
their stuff, but im not entirely sure why i got into them so
much. i do have a fair bit of their stuff just lying around
as a result..

offline catfood03 on 2008-05-15 06:10 [#02206692]

Some of Art of Noise's stuff was also cheesey to me upon
revisiting their material. Autechre name-drops them all over
the place, so I guess I can see them in the light of helping
to evolve the stuff I love today.

only ever listen to 5% of the stuff i have on originals.

Korn had this great sludgy yet precise sound that wasn't too
common back in the days.

Yeah life is peachy was best for clicky squishy rhythm (the
drummer was good) and then follow the leader had bits of
that but not so good. Then i moved on. Fuck tho, they were
such a bunch of self important dorks.

your all wrong .... every single one of you in this thread
is wrong!
(not that ive read it all)

because......its about your mood....if you play these pieces
of musics at the right moment youll go...>

"oooh yeeh nice...oh bab.y, i forgot how much i used to
like this song"

and then, if it really was the right moment you hit play,
you may even search online to see if the donk band is still
touring ...buy a ticket and a t-shirt....then look a right
narna on public transport and sweat a little bit too..

this didnt happen to me last month.

:P

you like an album then hate it and then you like it again
after a while. or at least some tracks off it.

and it's about mood too, sir freq = point

hahaha,
been listening to i care because you do today.
twice. i had to force me to other music,
not playing it a third time.

the aerosmith cd i had is baad.
i blame Alicia Silverstone & Liv Tyler for it.

also i dont enjoy quite some reggae/dub stuff
anymore like i used to :(
no regrets on that though

i'm finding many musics dont grab me as much as they used
to, its a shame but i think alot is to do with the loss of
my teenage angst, and a big swing towards apathy.
