im keen to argue that subjectivity is real and valid.
certainly, reality would be without us; it is our privilege
to experience it :)

Im just saying how I feel about it. And I will at times get
bold and borderline offensive. Don't hate me for it and
don't feel like you cant believe what you want its not about
that. I just think that is a view that is very common in
modern times and I feel compelled to challenge it. I think
it stems from environmental factors in the world but not the
core spirit of life.

Your attachments to life are what define it. We also have
mutual, cooperative agendas that connect you and define you
within the human environment. Whatever platform your
'existence' is on I feel you can comfortably rely on this as
your reality. The physics and science of the platform is
just endless speculation

What is real and how do I feel about the world around me are
two different things. If your experience was a garden
paradise where animals came up to greet you and you never
had a worry in the world would you feel the same way about
your reality?

I don't doubt that you feel strongly about it, as do I, and
i would bet that you have a big heart, and you're a nice
guy, but from what i understand, you believe that every
modern scientist, physicist, or any other proffesion that
deals with stuff along those lines is devoid of
emotion/feeling/spirit, which is possibly the same reason
why there's a conflict between "science" and "religion" Both
ideas just letting people be interested in what they want
but comparing themselves to one another, ego.

I don't think he meant that. This thread did start with cx
questioning the legitimacy of reality and if it really had a
meaning at all. I think ma man Glasse was just saying
there's all the meaning in the world to be had

they're not two different things, something real in your
brain just happens. if you manage to undestand and see a
phenomenon it doesn't automatically mean that you know how
could it happen.

i dont interpret glasse's comments as a rejection of
science. the impression i get is that he is challenging the
renunciation of subjective or spiritual reality in favour of
the physical; which is perhaps the crux of the argument.

i just wish the way people viewed spirituality (not
religion) and science was more seamless and would let them
shake hands a little more.

Lets get spiritual: So like, who made all this 'existence'
shit then? I think it was god.

I've done it all for you

I really agree. I've always been an atheist but not
pondering beyond is ignorance. Humans have always believed,
then we come along, reinvent the existential wheel and close
the book on the subject? I think we shouldn't

yeah i enjoyed the video, liked the ear bleeding part,
couldn't help but feel like you were being arrogant and
making fun of me though, there goes the damn feelings again,
wish i could turn them off.

sorry i mentioned religion too, just thought it was a word
closely tied to spirituality, probably just a cultural
defect of being brought up in the states.

sorry to question you ampi, but why do feel the need to call
yourself anything a musician? Do you really feel atheism is
purposeful for you?

well, my understanding is of an interdependent nature of
reality resulting from an infinite series of causes and
effects. spirituality involves an understanding of the
nature of being beyond the concepts of self and ego.

to argue who put what where is another example of subjective
bias. i think the point which many of us are trying to argue
is that we require a balance between objective and
subjective interpretation to form a more accurate
approximation of reality.

yea i didnt mean it that way thats why i said its not to
make light of the thread. i am just very impulsive and if
something reminds me of something i have to act (well it
takes a great deal of restraint for me not to)

no i just said spirituality rather than religion in an
attempt to make it feel more real. religion makes people
think of ceremonies and hate and being generally dull.

offline pulseclock from Downtown 81 on 2008-05-13 20:13 [#02206034]

yeah i guess i will open an honest and say that i haven't
been the happiest guy, so taking my mind away from the
feeling aspect of my spiritual side can be kind of
refreshing, but maybe too refreshing. i don't ever wanna be
a person that feels nothing. so if if im headed there, let
me know.

relinquish, because one has to possess it to pertain a frame

i can have a subtle playfully mischievous kind of sarcasm
that people don't always know how to take. and then when i
switch to serious mode they are further confused.

thats precisely what buddhist monks do (warning, buddhism);
they renounce the ego as a means to directly experience
reality. the idea is that through the attainment on
'non-self', one's perception is no longer beseiged by
illusion or preconception, and suffering can be ceased.

buddhism is frequently misunderstood as being a rejection of
or escapism from reality, when in fact, its goal is to
appreciate and accept reality's true nature.

it may also be interpreted as an extreme rejection of
subjective reality. once again, the process of rejection is
misinterpreted. transcendence of illusion and suffering
requires an understanding of subjectivity; indeed, knowing
how the mind works.

you people are probably the only people i would validate my
opinions with, usually anyone else is too wrapped up in
their own "world" of troubles i'd rather let them figure
their way through the bull shit themselves, maybe that's why
i have not many friends anymore.
