NIN were supposed to headline this festival at the astoria
only to pull out and be replaced by Ash.

through absolutely no choice of my own i've ended up seeing
ash 4 times in my life and even met their sniveling lettuce
of a frontman tim wheeler. experiences like this are what
turns a spirited youth into an enfeebled wizened old man.

i met him too. my friend's a photographer so he got us these
passes at one of their gigs. this girl and i were sitting in
Ash's little back room drinking their vodka while they were
playing the gig, only for them to catch us in the act after
they'd finished playing. he was surprisingly cool about it.

I saw Cornershop at Glastonbury 98 and their set was riddled
with technical difficulties which was a pisser.

Block Party

Bad sound, I have heard 15 year olds in youth clubs doing
Oasis covers that have sounded better. They can't have
soundchecked, I saw Sigur Ros at the same venue and their
sound was great.

efterklang is up there, but the biggest, jaw-breaking yawn
was this japanese performance artist, who struck one
chord on his guitar every 5 minutes, for a full hour
.

i used to go to all sorts of free shows that were super
pathetic like pat benetar and steve miller band, but the one
that takes the cake as the absolute worst was the "beach
boys" with creedence clearwater REVISITED opening. i
couldn't even enjoy it as something kitschy. the only
redeeming factor was that it cost me nothing.

i went to a bbq with my dad when i was a teenager. all went
well until some old lady pulled out an acoustic guitar and
everyone started singing hymns. we made our excuses during
the first hymn and fucked off straight out of there. it was
a bit of a shame in one way because the bbq was fucking
ace.

does this count?

some croatian band..i've probably seen worse but i can't
remember, anyhow this band was really dull..i had no idea
what they wanted me to hear as i could entertain myself
better with playing air drums.

sigur ros?
being a fan and all, im considering seeing them live when
they play in australia in august. how could they possibly be
responsible for your worst concert?!

oh screw that!

..but seriously.. saw an full page ad in music magazine
today for their tour. it also mentioned new album in june,
which i had no idea was coming so soon. very exciting.

i actually have no idea what this has to do with you telling
me not to expect techno.

it just made me not like them..i knew the concert would be
slow and tedious, like their albums, which would have been
okay maybe if it were a seated venue but it wasn't. so i'm
standing there falling asleep and my knees are locking and
i'm generally having a hard time keeping my eyelids up. and
i have to pee, really badly, but i can't get through the
thick crowd of very hip people. and then during their big
smash hit song (i do not remember the name, i dont even have
their mp3s handy lol, the one with the drip drop sound
effect on their first album) somebody made a mistake with
the dat tape for the drippy sound and it came out at the
wrong time again and again (which was actually really the
most fun and enjoyable part of the concert because it spiced
things up a bit!) and the singer freaked out and stopped the
song and got really mad it looked like. so it was kind of
embarrassing for him, and then the way he handled it sort of
made me just not really like him that much.

at Sonar 2001 when Squarepusher failed to turn up i was
utterly deflated.

however the Aphex Twin gig was pure noise insanity so it was
simultaenouly one of the best gigs too.

the highs the lows

just keep digging themselves in for me.

i always liked their music..but dunno anymore with that shit
attitude of theirs. after seeing that interview someone
linked to, dunno what to think anymore..i guess music will
really have to be something for me to like them

Sigur Ros and Nine Inch Nails were great when I saw them, It
sounds like you were at the wrong venue and maybe the wrong
tour for NIN, I saw them/him on the Downward Spiral tour
which is one of the best performences I have ever witnessed.

i would have rather gone to that one, but i was like not
really even allowed to cross the street by myself at that
time let alone go to see nine inch nails. so instead i got
to see him as a washed up has-been in 2005

maybe its unfair to list him in the worst concert, but i was
