famous friends

Does anyone have any really famous friends, I generally
know people who know people. But I am lacking in really
famous friends, if anyone has any spare famous friends I
would really like one. I will maintain a good ratio and
perhaps one of my friends of a friend will become my friend
and we can share.

Unless you kept his phone number and have developed a
relationship that invoves you calling him and listening to
him say,

'hello, hello, hello, I know who you are and I have
contacted the police'

If so awesome, good work

I bet you didn't recognise him until he bent over the salad
bar to reach the thousand island dressing

No joke, Tom Cruise and his entourage came to the movie
theatre I worked at in high school. Well, it wasn't his
entourage so much as him and 2 bodyguards. He came in
through the back entrance and we had to be 'hush-hush' about
it and were supposed to keep from looking him directly in
the face. He wore large aviator sunglasses into the
pitch-black theatre. This is the closest I have come to
meeting a famous person. Tom Cruise is a strange man.

only one at the Link after a festival in Bologna and there i
met Meg of 99 Posse, but i was too drunk to ask if it was
old or new.

place. you come often around here don't ya? gotta check you
out someday!

i saw massive attack in verona a few years ago..it was well
nice. one of my fav gigs, but im a massive ma fan. they're
playing here later this summer but not sure yet whether i'll
go to the gig or not. i'd like to hehe

im not going to italy much lately..but once i sort out my
money situation i should be going again. lots of good gigs
you have there!

do you remember this thread? LAZY_TITLE

DNA Concerti did it again and canceled at the last minute
the Ae date in Rome too! fuckers. the same happened with the
Cinematic Orchestra at the Estragon in Bologna. they're all
waiting for you to sort it out =)

i'm a MA fan too but i'm not sure i would see one of their
gigs these days, the one i saw they were all there, Daddy G
included. the last gig really worth i've seen was around
here in Milan, the Easy All Stars. that was some happy happy
time indeed =D

i thought daddy g was always a part of their live set up.

it's odd hearing gigs are getting cancelled. must be some
uncommon reasons though, as usually you italians really pack
the venues..unlike here i might add. how come you're
travelling that much? you're from milan, right? i thought
most musicians performing in italy stop in milan as well..

dunno why i thought at 3d playing all alone, bwah.

btw yeah, it must be something related tot he venues not
paying the artists or such, they never be clear when
something like that happens. when they cancelled the Aphex
gig i read somewhere that richard and his rephlex dude were
really displeased of the shit, and that they were planning
something hotter and bigger for 2008.. so who knows. rarely
musician i'm interested to stops in milan unless it's
summer, mostly reggae n stuff.

I don't have many friends, let alone famous ones. My most
famous genuine friend is artist Harry Pye, though I'm really
fucking pissed off I'm not mentioned on his Wiki page as I
was pivotal, but pivotal in his career.

I will use this as an opportunity to reel off the famous
people I have come into contact with in passing. I used to
work in this bar in the Kings Road, all sorts came in, I had
Kate Moss's lighter (from 7-11), I didn't steal it, she
just left it behind, god she was with that hatchet faced ex
wife of Noel Gallagher, who else... Marc Almond, who only
picked at his plate of pasta and didn't order, curiously,
his customary pint of spunk, who's the guy that was in
Neigbours then Prisilla, Queen of the desert, .. Guy...
Pierce? He was nice. Charlotte Gainsbourg, she was HOT. that
leggy Australian supermodel, I didn't notice her, Sian
Philips... Lesley Ash before she turned into a duck, ...
Ringo Starr...Rowan Atkinson (got turned away for trying to
get in 5 minutes before we opened by an australian waiter
who didn't recognise him)... Prince Naseem(technially a
dwarf).... Damon Hill .... that northern bird, really
stroppy, .. I can't remember her name, did a Bodingtons ad,
Melanie.. Sykes? Danni Minogue was a regular, she was a
painful cow, Marianne Faithful, you knew she was coming 5
minutes before she arrived as you could hear this
approaching hacking sound of her coughing her lungs, kidneys
and what remained of Jagger's wad up, ... in the IDM world I
have met Dicky (just to say I love him), had a natter with
Luke Vibert (nicest man in pop), gone to the toilet with
Cylob, went back to the hotel with an LFO, nearly got
knocked over by Goldie, he's not IDM, who else musical.. got
a funny look off of Peter Hook, hugged Mark Eitzel, ... I
think I've kind of met, in only stupid ways, every single
famous person ever. I used to have Bucks Fizz's autograph,
they did an appearance in Burtons, Jay Aston was still with
them at the time. Dwell on that

“Everything was perfect in terms of artist logistics /
production etc.. Just a total bugger what happened in the
end.
Both me & Richard hold absolutely no feeling of this being
DNA’s fault whatsoever. It’s easy to see that you were
treated really bad by a short sighted council. [...]
I am planning with Richard & the same promoters to make a
bigger show happen in 08”

I met Mark Eitzel once and he is a really nice guy. He did a
show in my hometown and about 10 people turned up for it.
Great show, though. After the show he was drinking in the
club as anyone else and my drunk brother approached him and
then introduced us. We talked all night, about Nick Drake
and classical music and a lot of other things. Later Eitzel
went back to his hotel but the keyboard player of the band
joined me and my friends for an afterparty at my place. I
gave him my copy of Sensorama's "Welcom Insel" to give to
Eitzel because of an American Music Club sample they have
used on the final track on that album, "Aspirin". Years
later I sent Eitzel a mail enquiring about the cd. He said
that he remembered me and that he liked the Sensorama disc
and that he had tried to get hold of Sensorama a million
times without any success and that he did not know of them
using the sample... which was the piano opening of
"gratitude walks" from Mercury (released on the major label
Virgin...hmmmm, lawsuite? ). I find all this a bit amusing,
but it might just bore you to death...

I've met quite a lot of other "famous" people (I used to be
a music journalist for this student radio station), but no
one particularly mainstream kind of famous ones. Among the
most amusing meetings was smoking a spliff with the Third
Eye Foundation, trying not to blush to much face to face
with Alison Shaw of Cranes and trying to get a jet-lagged
Merzbow and wife out of bed for an interview (my interpreter
was a young Korean boy with very limited Japanese skills and
no knowledge of noise music whatsoever, so that didn't turn
out to good. It was fun, though). No famous friends
though...

kinda glad to hear that : ) as i had a similar experience
interviewing dj krush. it's quite impossible to do a proper
interview through a translator..specially with japanese guys
i reckon..anyway, i think pretty much everyone else in music
bussiness speaks english so i don't really know for sure
haha.

Impossible indeed. My worst interview though, was with
Natacha Atlas, on the phone. She was swearing so bad and
sounding like she was going to punch me in the face any
minute. Later I heard her interview with our biggest
national radio station and mine sounded decent in comparison
because she was apparently really, really pissed off with
them.

haha..a good thing it was a phone interview then!

at the station i work for various people cover various
genres. im more in the experimental, electronic side of
things so i only had nice experience so far. with rock music
you never know what you're going to get..on top of that they
often don't have much interesting to say either. it's really
nice to do interviews because it can give you quite a
different perception on their work in a way.. dj krush was
the least interesting guy i interviewd so far..the closer
they are to mainstream the less they've got to say i think :
)

That was my experience as well. Wish I was back in the radio
business, I really miss it. I did it from '97 to '00 and a
lot of interesting stuff was happening around that time.
Free gigs, backstage passes, free records and sometimes even
free booose.
