wow.

how big do you have to get (err, how big do you think you
have to be) in order to write in 3rd person?

listening to a couple of his tracks on myspace, it would
appear that Warp made the right move.

Isn't the new album gonna be like minimal-techno-funk? WTF?
Warp have gone a bit mental I think....

"It has come to the decision of Warp Records" "Let this be a
motivational and inspirational message for artists alike."

Too bad the blurb was written by an 11-year old. I like the
sycophantic comments as well: "your creative clock, has
always been set a decade ahead of the rest.."

You know, setting a clock for the future doesn't make it
tomorrow faster, it just makes you wait longer in the
doctor's office.

I've always been a fan of Jimmy Edgar's music - not all of
it...(plus device) but i think there's some unbelievable
stuff on Merck and on Access Rhythm. Hell, i'm even into
My Beats in a big way, despite (or maybe because of)
the cheeeeezee!

mmmmm bit baffling as to why they didn't give him any
constructive criticism, i think Steve Beckett's a
legend.

He showed so much promise with My Mines I. Everything else
has been spotty, but he still has his moments (Pret a Porter
for example). I haven't really liked much of the new stuff
I've heard (Plus Device, Her Bad Habit). I hope the new
material is actually good and Warp is making a mistake, but
I could definitely see the opposite being true.

riddance.

I either love or hate his music: I know that can be the case
for lots of music, but it seems especially true of his.
Sometimes it sounds repetitive and utterly boring. But
recently it has sounded very slick and bangin. Must be the
weather.

I like some of his stuff (My Mines I was pretty good, some
of his warp stuff was decent as well), but he sounds like
the kind of artist labels would be happy to part with. If
he was half as good as he thinks he is warp would keep him.

I agree, his Merck tracks are great. Well, half of them from
the 'My Mines I' album. His new stuff? Not so great...
sounds like a pretentious version of Stephine Tanner
Surprise.

I've just re-read his message sober. I didn't notice how
badly written and bizarre it was. There's moments where it
looks like the writer is forgetting that he's talking about
himself in the third person - hard to explain.

I wonder why Warp would reject it, though - I mean they're
fine with putting stuff like Confield out, so i can't see
why his music would be too 'futuristic' or whatever.

Perhaps he would have more luck if he sent them some early
90s indie music. I think they like that now

isn't it because warp knows a certain number of people will
buy the autechre album regardless of how it sounds (within
reasonable limits, of course)?

admittedly, how autechre have managed to stay commercially
viable is astonishing.

what's the point in nitpicking, though-when you work hard to
make a record while signed to a lable and then when it's
done the label says they're not going to release it, it's
going to piss you off, and maybe you'll go on oprah or
myspace and make an ass of yourself while you're pissed off
and/or drunk.

i can't comment on his music though since i'm cutting down
on my internet opinions...
