IDM: Direct and interactive marketing skills and
knowledgeOffer a range of professional development and
training programmes. Full details of services, courses and
qualifications.

I heard someone say it is actually 'Independant' Dance
Music, not Intelligent.
Calling it Intelligent is ridiculous, Intelligence is
relative, i.e Minimum Intelligence Dance Music. Not as if
any of the artists concerned claim any particular
intelligence

It was a tag invented by an i-D magazine journalist who
didn't know shit and was into LTJ Bukem at the time. Such a
small thing can cause so many problems down the line...
influence/end a whole scene.

Once again, back is the incredible
The typing animal
The incredible GLASSE TEXT BEATS number one

Can't I tell 'em that I really never had a mouse?
But it's the type that the Terminator X set

People are just trying different shit. Squarepusher put out
a Plaid album, Clark put out an industrial-rave album, AE's
trying some different approaches.

What is important is that at the end of the day, from
Kraftwerk-Clark it is all about MAN & MACHINE and that is
not going anywhere anytime. Doesn't matter what label we
attach to the trends.

it seems that in time some people's opinions about "idm"
changed because the music was called "idm." or at least,
the name contributed to the perception that the music was
pretentious, elitist, etc.

wasn't clark's "ted" an idm record?

people would like to believe that they aren't influenced by
ephemera like labels, but they seem to be. just look at
what a failure "cack rock" has been...

well IDM is just so broad anyway, and there are so many
hybrids now. If we say grime, we mean grime. If we say
dubstep, we mean dubstep. If we say IDM it could sound like
BoC, AE, AFX, MBM, COH, MoM, who all sound very very
different from one another. IDM is a catch-all, but it
could be braindance or experimental electronica whatever
term you want to use.

It's like industrial wtf do Zoviet France and KMFDM have to
do with each other? but you will find them both listed as
industrial probably on page 1 of your web search.

not to beat a dead horse, but

*beats a dead horse*

my point was missed, that the label itself can and does
affect people's perceptions of the music.

now help me get this horse into this ambulance...

i see what you're saying. i haven't experienced that too
much myself, but there is not really an electronic music
scene here so i don't meet people at raves listening to
crystal method trying to decide whether or not to give idm a
chance.

anyone irl i know that listens to it ive known for years and
we all found out who ae and afx were about the same ways:
aphex's mix on nins further down the spiral, mtvs amp and
the second bad vibel/bass cadet videos.

IDM is the name given to stuff that isn't kicking but
pretending to belong to the stuff that is kicking. i.e the
kings of idm don't make idm themselves; idm is just
imitation
