That was the very first mp3 I ever downloaded, back in, good
god, '97,' 98?

I think the first song I ever downloaded was some Marilyn
Manson because it was on a web site page

i don't remember what was my first download but the first
music i went searching for when i got the internet was aphex
twin

offline mohamed from the turtle business on 2016-03-03 15:59 [#02492743]

or maybe prodigy

It was Prodigy, c'mon! And there's no shame in that.

But the first mp3 I ever looked up was definitely
Aphex Twin. Definitely. Not Prodigy, nor Marilyn
Manson. So, unless someone's going to rock up and say their
first mp3 was Stockhausen, I am winning this thread. Or at
least this latter part of it.

lol. yeah, it was probably prodigy. and there's no shame in
that!

it was out of space, and i remember suddenly going back to
the ol mtv days, and saying: 'minchia, troppo bello' trans.
'damn, shit is so cool'

I can still "see" it, I think I downloaded winamp to play
it. Winamp was cool. Can you still get Winamp?

*Checks*

Yes you can. Ahh, winamp skins. Fancy those.

I remember the first time I heard Prodigy's "Out of Space" -
I was at Art School on a coach trip to Paris and someone was
playing their mix tape. I too thought 'minchia, troppo
bello', in my own way. Good times.

Winamp, holy shit. It's the cockroach of software.

AOL owned this and Netscape and all kinds of great things
and was too stupid to do anything with them because since
the 90s their business model was lying back with their mouth
open drinking profits from subscribers who were either too
stupid to realize they no longer needed AOL, or were conned
and browbeaten into believing so.

I'll shut up now.

There was Mosaic before NN, yes. As recently as 2013 I was
working somewhere on a web site build and some guy went,
"Hey, not so fast, the site's borked on Konquerer" - Fuck
you, I check my shit on Lynx.

my brother still uses telnet from time to time, i dont think
i ever used mosaic, but i certainly used netscape, until
microsoft undermined it, internet explorer what a piece of
shit that was, dunno what its like now

The worst thing is Windows 10 and its updates. Who on earth
cares about IE Edge or whatever it is now I don't know, but
Windows 10 quasi-bricked my dad's £600 fucking quid laptop
(don't ask why he felt he needed to pay so much for
something that plays blu-rays that he doesn't have (the
happy ending is that I've got it now (and, before you think
I am a bastard, I fixed it and am passing it on)) and the
same happened to some other relatives (they fixed it
themselves). But it is, surely, a SCANDAL that you still
don't actually own your own computer - you've just leased a
test-bed for some microsoft fuck-monkies to dick about with.

I said I'd shut up earlier, and I haven't!

yes thats a good analogy microsoft testbed, i use windows 7
still its the least shot one ive used for a while, but its
so noddy that i just lost all interest in computers pretty
much
