That’s wicked, thanks.

Shame we have to hear the idiots in the crowd. What about
the dickhead at 26 mins?

"I think so... it doesn’t sound like Autechre, but
there’s two guys up there..."

WTF? It doesn’t sound like Autechre? Has he ever listened
to AE?

What the fuck does he think AE sound like? 50 Cent? Britney?
Tool?

calm down, friend.

Maybe he'd only heard Amber before this, or something.

Pretty good recording though, thanks for the link. Looking
forward to some soundboards of this one.

Yer right, bit of an over-reaction from me... I'm just
pissed off they never came to Ireland... it gets on my tits
that some dude who can't even tell AE from his arse gets to
see them and a nerd fanboi like me doesn't. I haven't seen
them in years!! Class recording though ;-)

yeah sorry that was uncharacteristically bitter of me. well
isn't this just a thread of apologies. i did nap a little
but i have a really fucked up work and sleep schedule if
that explains anything. here...

to bad you can't isolate the sound of me doing the robot in
the front of the room.

fixed.

No worries, been there myself...

Re your robotics, you actually can hear it - about the 52
minutes mark - Clunk, bleep bleep bleep. Clunk. Yawn. Beep
(Clatter clatter as robot collapses from nervous
exhaustion.)

And then some twat - not you, obviously - saying; "Are you
sure this is autechre? Where's the human beatbox? And the
chorus? And the dancing hotties? Dude..."

not bad, but also nowhere near compares to the massive 60hz
and below assault my body endured. shit i wish i could have
my eyeballs resonanted again by AE, maybe 2 years from now
on their next tour.

seriously, i dont even see the point in having a recording
of the live show without any way to reproduce the bass.

not really much of "mastering" done here huh ? :)

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-08 15:36 [#02192498]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

im not sure what you mean, are you saying your not pleased
with it?
i did a lot of mastering effects to it, i cant say i spent
more than 2 hours playing with it but i think it sounds
quite better than the original.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-08 15:37 [#02192499]

(imo the best mastering jobs are ones that dont sound
drastically different, but just bring out the best aspects
of the original, i cant say im a skilled mastering engineer
but i tried !)

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2008-04-08 16:03 [#02192500]
Points: 8670 Status: Lurker

actually i wanted to say that your mastering made it sound
even more unnatural with those really hi high's punching
your ear.

but looking at the spectrograph i have to admit that your
version is much more linear than the initial recording so it
seems that i have no fucking idea about sound mastering and
should shut the fuck up.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-08 16:06 [#02192501]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

well i purposefully tried to uncompress the sound a little
and bring back the dynamics and felt like autechre's music
is complemented pretty well by very crispy 14-17k range high
end
i was going to try and boost it again to make it louder but
it would have lessened the dynamic range.

those crispy highs are revealing a massive sound coming from
the elektron boxes. there is so much going on up there. it's
not just part of some high hats but has some real life going
on. especially in the very first track. it sounds like some
very roughly granulized (or probably stuttered as the
elektron don't have a granulize effect )

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-08 17:01 [#02192508]

they are masters of elektron machinedrum and monomachine.
some of the bass tones and snares they get off those are
simply amazing!

Points: 8670 Status: Lurker | Followup to jackeroffer: #02192508

i'm curious if that resonant snare in the middle of the set
is a elektron only thing or if they resampled it. this is
one of the most awesome sounds ever.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-08 17:07 [#02192516]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

which part specifically the one with the sparse breakdown
that has a very strong tone behind the snare around 21:00
in(the unsplit recording)? that sounds most definitely like
machinedrum to me

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2008-04-08 17:13 [#02192519]
Points: 8670 Status: Lurker

yeah exactly that one - it sounded so damn good live. i
tried to recreate it a little bit but didn't really came to
any conclusion if it's playing around with the pitch or if
it's some resonant effect.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-08 17:18 [#02192521]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

i think its using the specific machine drum kit that
emulates acoustic drum sounds, the physical modeling one. At
the moment i forgot the name of it but the snare sounds a
lot like it comes from there, you can get extremely 'ringy'
snares from that kit. it also might be a combo of two
sounds, a snare from that kit mixed with another snare from
another just to give it extra smack.

Re: The recent Portland show.

"...their sound guy recorded the portland show. he had
one of those zoom handheld recorders w/XLR's coming straight
from the board. the normal sound guy at the venue said to me
"yeah, that's their sound guy". so perhaps they are gonna
release something?? or pick a few good ones and share them..
who knows.. i'd love to have a copy of the portland show. it
was killer."

I suppose with THEIR soundguy sitting next to the soundguy
for each venue, the odds of getting a proper board recording
drops significantly.

It'll be an absolute tragedy if a proper quality recording
of this set never sees the light of day in any form. I
would gladly pay the same as Quaristive lmtd. to have
50-70minutes of this on disc.

Their Machinedrum work is amazing, seriously, I mean it's
easy to get a lot of stuff going on with the MD, but Sean
and Rob really push it to its limit, it's so so cool. I want
a Monomachine.

they broke down to just that snare I went fucking apeshit
when I saw them.
