current state of warp records.

i think quaristice has been the best think on warp records
since the battles lp and the flying lotus ep last year.
neither of which was typically what warp pushes. i know
they have carried 'bands' and non-dance/glitch stuff before
(like broadcast) - but i just wonder if they will continue
to try different styles. i think they should, bc as much as
i want to think that the new clark album (and other
stereotypically-simlar-sounding-played-out-since-the-90s-"uk
dance" stuff) is really good - it just reminds me of stuff
that happend about 14 years ago.

Warp is the new 4AD... and 4ad is releasing Mountain Battles
by the Breeders these day...knowwhatI'msayin....The life of
a label is kind of a strange phenomenon. But if we took away
2/3 of the labels success over the years Warp would either
be closer to it's original form or it would be gone. Record
labels grow old and get a little fat just like people do...

And oh, I love Quaristice too, especially that bonus disc. I
bet Warp loves that too.

They release a lot of good non-electric music, but I think
they fail to pick up the exciting new electronic artists. I
wish they could do both

Co-existence brings up some interesting points but WARP got
a bad attitude.

Warp is much bigger than it used to be. It employs more
staff and staff need paying. It can no longer afford to take
the risks it used to, that's why they caved in and took the
mainstream route.

Of course, they're going to hang on to their most popular
electronic artists, it's not their fault they're all getting
stale and boring. This comes with age.

I don't think there's a lot of good electronic music coming
out in the Squarepusher/Aphex vein.

Electronic music's biggest problem is that equipment is too
cheap, every dickhead thinks he knows what he's doing. They
use technique as an excuse for lack of talent. If it costed
a lot more money to buy gear they wouldn't even start in the
first place and we wouldn't be subject to their tedious
Aphex impersonations - and neither would Warp.

i feel sp's new album rocked, plotinus and orient orange
anyone?
autechre's album, while not completely there, was okay..
tankakern, fol3, wnsn etc.
as for aphex, the tuss is great..

new idm like ochre is also good, and funckarma is still
going at it.
boc's campfire headphase was awesome too.
maybe you guys think im being too optimistic, but i cant
help how i feel about this, the aformentioned albums are
mostly unique and classic to me.
