The Mighty Bollocks

Hypothesis: The Mighty Boosh isn't comedy, its a
platform for two cocks with haircuts to get onto the front
cover of NME Magazine

Argument: Saying "random" things is not funny, its
lazy and has been done before to much more humerous effect
by Monty Python. I have tried watching a whole episode and
didnt laugh once. Youngster should know better, because
they're to blame for everyone hyping this shit up no end. It
pisses me off that this generation perfers something because
it's cool and trendy rather then because it's actually
funny.

Conclusion: Watch it with other people and you'll
notice they tend to just nervously laugh because they think
they should do. The idiot generation lap it up with their
"oh he's on acid he is so kerazy and a comedy genius". Well
I've had funnier shits.

Calm a llama down
Calm a llama deep down
In the ocean blue
Like a barnacle
Sitting in the tight place
Laughing at the monkey arm
Pulling like a china boy

Kara-way
Kara-way
Kara-way noise

Boing si ka semala
Boing si ka semala

No, I like 'The Mighty Boosh' because I find it really funny
and because it's my kind of comedy. I also find 'Monty
Python' and 'Look Around You' and other daft bizarre shows
funny. You know, there's not that much surrealist comedy out
there, and there is room for the Boosh AND Monty Python (and
a couple of others.)

I didn't like the third series much, but the first two were
charming, utterly ridiculous, imaginative, and genuinely
funny. I first saw the Mighty Boosh on a plane and didn't
even know what it was - it was the Old Greg episode - but it
did everything right and I fell in love with it. I kind of
wish it hadn't been hyped up since then, but oh well; what
goes on outside doesn't change the content of the actual
episodes, does it?

Who cares if its fans are shitty and who cares if Noel is a
bit of a twat? I like it because it's fucking fun to watch
and I'm a fan of the absurd anyway (unfortunately, they've
dumbed down the more absurd elements in the newest
series...) The radio series is also great.

If you prefer traditional punch lines or comedy that centres
around sex or awkward social situations avoid it and watch
those instead.

*I think punch lines and comedies involving awkward social
situations are also goodgreat, though. 'Curb Your
Enthusiasm', 'The Office', 'Peep Show', etc. All lovely!
Depends what mood you're in.

Old Greg is a sheer work of genius. Baileys,
crustacean-ified wife, mangina, and the incarnation of the
'funk'.

Genius.

comedy is so awful now. nobody can go on stage without
swearing for a cheap laugh. it's so tiresome. I mean for god
sake, who actually pays to watch drivel like gervais, carr,
brand, that arsehole who never smiles and all the others.
it's comedy by numbers. it's like going to the doctor for a
bunyon - ooh, today I want to smile - I'll pay to watch
people swear hahaha

people will watch practically anything these days and laugh
at it. sheep I tell you.

I've never seen any Carr's performence. What you say i quite
dissapointing, because I found his "Put smarties tubes on

hilarious.

I'm an English Literature undergrad; I know how it's spelt.
The reason I have it spelt the way it is, incorrectly, is
out of homage to my favorite artist Delerium.

BarcodeI whole-heartedly agree with you. Even
Gervais, who is brilliant in the Office, was a total flop
doing stand-up comedy from my point of view. 'Animals wasn't
bad (Anne Frank vs Nazis sequence was amusing, but far from
genius) however I thought 'Fame' was woeful.

As in the shit spin off from Front Line Assembly?

If you have such low standards for your music why should we
care about your opinions on anything else.

People were saying that 20 years ago.
It's pretty much like the "these kids nowadays blah blah
venom angst" rant of the older gen... it was the same 200
years ago and will be the same in another 200.
I didn't see you as being that old, though maybe a tad
pedantic. = P

I love English comedies. I like the idea of the Boosh more
than the actual jokes. I like how they combine rock and roll
psychedelic with comedy. Very ground breaking..

For when I really want to laugh though I usually turn to
real time with Bill Maher, south park, The Colbert Report.

Um, I like to keep abreast of British comedies on UKnova,
but I haven't found anything that makes me really belly
laugh. The brass eye series was great, I loved people like
us. A lot of the stuff in England lately seems to be panel
discussion shows with comics and quasi famous people.
Anything really good I should be looking for? I never got
around to watching any partridge. I should check that out.

What's age got to do with it. I like toilet humour along
with the best of them, but it's how it's presented. It seems
that nowadays they're swearing to fill a void - that being
ideas. It was the cheap laugh 200 years ago and will be a
cheap laugh in another 200 years. Trouble is that comedy is
now utterly awash with vulgarity - so the effect of swearing
on the senses has become completely and utterly redundant.
It's like anything in life, you keep repeating and repeating
and repeating people are going to get bored. Unfortunately
it takes a looonggg time for people to get fed up, because
the masses are so mechanical in their thinking. They want to
be entertained, so they pay their money and laugh at any old
dung, because thats what they're supposed to do.

swearing has very little to do with the acts you mentioned
though, or in fact comedy in general. swearing is a small
part of the descriptive manner in which comedians project
their jokes, and are only a result of current social
etiqutte. however, finding vulgarity in the substance of a
joke told by Bernard Manning and Roy Chubby Brown etc, i
would understand.

i done did a lol at the complaints of cheap laughs at
vulgarity, when i looked at your avatar.

Fine. i wasn't saying humour was the same 200 years ago, i
meant that older generations have always thought of the
younger one as 'the worse'. But yeah, fair enough, thanx for
sharing your views.

i remember about 20 years ago the whole swearing humour
thing was a big issue... bye bye Corbett and co, welcome the
era of swearing.

edit: 'the worse' as in: "Oooh these kids nowadays don't
know how to live anymore" etc.. the worst batch yet.

i'm wandering away from the point though..

I like the mighty boosh, i think it's quite creative and
rather funny. Haven't seen season 3 yet.
