Fucking hell, I can think of nothing in the world more
frustrating that being a telephone support service for
troubleshooting mundane computer tasks for friends and
relatives. If it was anyone I didn't give a shit about, I
could simply tell them to fuck off or just ignore them
completely, but obviously you can't be rude to those closest
to you.

I cringe every time someone rings and says the ominous words
"i'm having a problem with my computer". I realise noone is
an expert at the start, but i'm seriously considering
recommending everyone buys a mac at this point simply to
avoid this kind of thing in future. I have three distinct
relatives (my brother, my sister and her boyfriend, and my
uncle) who each plague me with constant telephone calls to
help them with their computer.

I'm sure most of you can relate in some way or another, so
here is a thread you can use to vent your frustration.
Bitchfest!

I think that is the approach i'm gonna use in future,
although I doubt it will work as I have fixed even the most
insane of computer fuckups at the hands of my sister. They
probably won't believe me.

But fuck it, I can't take another 30 minute phonecall
discussing the impossibility of connecting a mobile phone to
the computer via USB. How people do this for a living is
beyond me.

ha. it's the only they'll learn. really. they'll have to
pick up the manual and find out. or research the subject on
the internet. like everyone else.

The real problem I have is when I try to explain to people
that it's a simple, mundane and easy to work around problem
and it's not worth the time/effort to solve it. There are
dozens of "less than perfect" things about my current PC,
but I can work around them. I don't get why people think
their owning of a computer should be 100% trouble free and
easy. It's not like you buy a car and just expect it to run
forever without you ever having to do anything to it.

It just pisses me off how ignorant they can be. I enjoy
learning and feel better fixing my own problems, but the
rest of my family are the complete opposite. They just want
things to work. That's fair enough, but these things tend to
take a long time to explain and there is absolutely no
reward for the person fixing/guiding the other person, since
the chances are the information you supplied them went
completely over their head anyway. It is like a dog being
groomed by it's master - it will do what you say without
really understanding why.

does anyone have any prank phonecalls of people being
intentionally cuntish to telephone it support lines? i fear
the only way i could possibly de-stress myself right now is
to bask in the superior misery of others.

Yeah, I know how you feel. My mum still doesn't know how to
move files from one folder to another or even how to back up
files to a CD, and she's been using a computer for 10 years.
I have explained it at least 20 times. I think some people
just don't understand the technology and never will or they
use a tiny portion of the PC's capabilities and are scared
to go beyond that.
