i love it so so much

do u consider it new & creative, or a rip off and not worthy
of anyone's time?

Could you provide more information? Is it a band, a style, a
song, what?

Downloading the file, but it'll still be limited what I can
get out of it.

if you're already dl-ing the file, wouldn't listening to the
song be easier than asking for more info? I could understand
if you hadn't started downloading it yet, but... lol

Not necessarily.

The file won't tell me much about its origins; it'll just be
a piece of music (not that that's a "just" in the derogatory
sense).

I've heard the song, and it's not too different from how
Eleanor Rigby sounds to me anyway, so it isn't really
nothing new. It's not bad, either, but it isn't good in the
"YEAHAHEEHAY GO LISTEN TO IT RIGHT NOW!" sense of the word.
I guess maybe some knowledge can help the aesthetic
experience, although in certain cases, it diminishes it.

What is this?

bastard pop is basically mashups

like soulwax etc

mashups/bastard pop are a great new creative outlet,
methinks.

my laptop djing is more and more moving towards being
considered mashups, but as of now im mostly just mixing a
couple songs and letting them play thru.

2 many dj's/this is radio soulwax and girltalk are amazing.

bastard pop is great when its done well. it can make poor
tunes good, and good tunes great.

on the other hand, it can work in reverse too. depends who
does it i spose.

Ditto. I kind of mix like this, 30 tracks in 15 minutes with
2 or three going at a time, some little more than loops of a
few bars. I enjoy doing it although I hardly ever listen to
that kind of thing. That Dirtchamber Sessions by the Prodigy
will always be my favourite mix in this style although the
Girl Talk stuff is good too. I'm not really a big fan of the
Soulwax ones mainly because i was a massive fan of them for
the first couple of albums then they went all trendy and
electro and it hurt me.

you use something like ableton/traktor or just a wave
editor? latter gives you bare control to get everything nice
and tight but it's well frustrating if you're trying to do a
longer mix, hard to get a coherent "arc"... more like
building a model ship than anything else. still good fun
though, just a bit anal

oh dear god, doing mashups in a wave editor would be
absolute hell!

i personally use ableton and love it - it's the one program
thats perfectly suited for that kind of stuff.

are people doing laptop sets out like this?

i was considering trying to land some gigs doing these kind
of sets. im not good on decks really, but i can do mixes
like this in live.

laptop dj sets have been going for many years. traktor
normally, but live is also a popular one. most mixes posted
on this very forum are made that way, with more than a few
classic mashups if you keep your finger on the pulse.

Surprises me a bit that this is like the "new shit" in here
right now. A danish radio show has been playing a lot of
this stuff, many years ago!

Yeah, were so hip and all that shit.
