i was just wondering is the pioneer of the the whole
'drill&bass' genre. are the songs on HAB consider the first
drill&bass songs?

no...
luke vibert was prolly the first to release what we now know
as drill n bass..
as plug..
squarepusher came not long after that...though he was prolly
doing it at the same time luke was...
richard is good friends with both...and was probably
inspired by them

so...check out plug's 'drum n bass for papa' (with the plug
ep's) and squarepusher's 'burningn n tree' for what were
probably the first true 'drill n bass' tracks

Well Both Hangable Autobulb 1 and Drum and Bass for Papa
both came out in the same year (1996).

Is there anything of RDJ's before that that could be
considered Drill 'N Bass? What about Tom Jenkinson?

good

true, but the second disc of 'dnb for papa' was a
compilation of the plug ep's...which were previously
released..
same thing with burningn n tree...its a comp of sp's singles
from spymania...most of which came out in 95 i believe
and as far as i know... HAB was the first appearence of
rdj's 'drill n bass'

I made some drill and bass tracks back in '92, at the age of
10. I lost the fucking MP3 player I had all my tracks on!!!
Dammit.

Yes, I had an MP3 player in '92...

Conumber by Squarepusher came out in 1995

HAB came out in November 1995

Plug 1 and 2 came out in 1995, thou it doesnt seem as
'drill' more than just really cool drum and bass.

mu-ziq, was as usual, a couple years behind (yeah, i'm
mean)

do any of these artists use the term drill and bass???

heh... i doubt it...terms like that are usually created by
journalists and used by fans...and journalists...
its funny, most artists involved in sub-genres tend resent
the sub-genre's title..
mostly because they tend to resent music journalism in
general...

i think most of those artists prefer the older, more general
term 'jungle' (even though this too was created by
lazy/racist journalists) or at least thats what they refer
to it as in the few instances i've seen them talk about
their music in interviews

no, it wasnt luke vibert either....... squarepusher was
doing it before AFX was I know that for a fact. I dunno
about Luke Vibert and his history with the stuff....
although I have tons of his cds and such..... but im
positive none of these artists started the genre.
