Nine inch Nails may be cool but they can't be put into a defense of the 80's. Their first release came in Nov '89. a little late to save the decade.
However New Order/Joy Division, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Pixies,... were all great artist to come out of the 80's

the 80s were great times 4 music imo
but as it got later in the 90s up to today it seems like most of the mainstream artists perform only for profit and will use any method that will get them there
some music's improved throughout the 90s tho...

Most 80's music was all about the money and not art at all. Doesn't anyone remember Poison, Skid Row, Cinderella, Warrent, Tesla, Whitesnake, Winger, Scorpions. Need I go on? Every decade is the same shit. It's easy to look back and remeber the good or the bad but people seldom remember things as they were.

sticking to a certain period is definitly not one of the most intelligent things to do methinks; it may help you finding your section in a cd store but it has nothing to do with quality.
....maybe with style but this is also a rather uninteresting question

i was too young really to have a decent recollection of the 80s
i liked the development of diversity and complexity in music throughout the 90s in the underground scene (mainstream on the other hand; blech)

I think the reason the eighties had such an impact on me was because we were all young, in school with our mates - having a great time.....and now that I am older, and have responsibilities that I never had then....things are different!
I was a nice place to be...

I'm not a big fan of 80's music... or fashion! But everything else was great. The toys, cartoons, video games, all of that stuff. I was born in late '82, so all the late 80's NES games and all that are so nostalgic. And I miss GI Joe and the Transformers. :-( They don't make cartoons like that anymore.

The movie is so damn great... Robert Stack from Unsolved Mysteries did the voice of Ultra Magnus, I always got a kick out of that.
And they swear and curse in that movie! It brings me near tears to watch it these days, so nostalgic. :-) And it's so sad when Optimus dies.

I listened to 'Dancing with tears in my eyes' by Ultravox earlier today. It's from '84. (I even put it on repeat).
Have you seen the video to this song? It's pretty scary and sad. Touches me deeply. Honestly. :(
