i don't want to offend anybody, or get sarcastic replies
(that being said i know i am increasing the possibilty of
that happening)
I am just really interested of this, and not liking any of
the stuff i use. I know it's not what you got, it's how you
use it, but i'm just wondering.

what did he use as far as synths and that goes? did he still
use analog on some songs, or did use just his laptop?

i would like to know how to get good sounding instruments,
(drums, synths, bass synths) on a laptop, even though i know
it's not as sweet sounding as recorded analog.

id rather record into a $100 4-track than into my computer
and work on it later.

it was his first digitally produced album, wasn't it? all
done on a mac?

He said at the time of release (96) that it all was recorded
native (all computer-made) - but I doubt that considering
the state of tech at the time....? (but that might explain
the harsh EQ on afx stuff 96-98, though?)

I think that is correct. I think it was done using an ircam
program or something along those lines.

liar :(

he just has some fun with the press thats all, they are
tards that ask the same questions over and over and over

I beLIEve that he makes his own gear, hes into it, hes got
time and cis-ash. I cant see him shopping at Circuit City
for his gear

A lot of the RDJ album is computer generated.

I think he mostly uses what everyone else does if not
extremely rare and expensive synths. I think he does like
the exclusivity of using rare and expensive gear. I'm sure
aphex has gear modified by other people. That's plausible,
but him actually making samplers and sequencers and analog
synths from scratch all by himself? No, I don't believe
that. Its would be silly too. I'm sure he's used customized
software too, but lots of people do.

The best thing about this album is the clear stance RDJ
takes in the ZX Spectrum camp, as opposed to the fucking
C-64.

You are right. I'm too drunk to remember who said this, but
somebody who knew him in some interview confirmed that all
that stuff about him making his own synths and whatnot is
lies.

The GENIUS of RDJ manifests itself in the way in which he
anticipated 15 odd years ago that people would be all snobby
about what vast range of gear they all used to make exactly
the same sounding music.

Yeah, rich started that whole DIY attitude. His whole
lliving in a bank, making his own gear, using only his own
gear for music, all that mystique, even if it wasn't true,
was really image enhancing for him. It made the music
better.

+1. To quote Jand, "...all the best people had Spectrums."

The use of wanky c64 style arp'd chip tune melodies in
Britney's latest track, as well as everything Timbaland has
done of late only serves to further cement this fact. You
don't get any chart whores using Specdrum on their "beatz",
do you?
