I've been having some computer troubles

I got this new PC from my friend (I've reformatted the hard
drive and did a system recovery before using it). About 1
week ago it would slowly show signs up problems. Started out
my Mozilla stopped working. I tried uninstalling and
re-installing that. Didn't help, so I used IE.

Then the past two days it would randomly freeze while in the
middle of an application.

Then it wouldn't even get past the USER ACCOUNT sign in when
starting windows.

Last night I stayed up and redid a system recovery, twice,
and have had to run Check Disk almost every time I turn the
PC on.

I've just now gotten it to a point where everything seems to
be running smoothly again.

Does anyone know the cause of this or how to prevent it in
the future?

(PS - I did not go to any porn sites or sites with potential
viruses or Trojans, however, I am on a USB Network Card,
feeding off of a neighbors router.)

Thanks.

back up format and re install xp ....

use linux ubuntu for the internet . its free and clean

you can install it after you re instal xp . it auto makes a
dual boot system.

make a backup image of your c drive once you have it set up
just right. i need to this too. ghost would do ..there is
another too...but i forgot the name.

Make sure you have service pack 2. - then gotoStart >
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management..
Then under "Event Viewer" look at the "System" even log.
--- Now... anytime you computer freezes or has a problem,
check the syem event log for errors. It sounds to me like
you might have a bad hard drive if you are needing to run
check disk. ...also, do all of this before you go and
re-install XP and try a dual boot with linux etc... The
reason why is because if you have a bad hard drive, you'll
be wasting your time ire-installing the OS. ... In short,
Identify the problem first. ... also if the computer ever
"blue screens" ... write down the error code and look it up
on microsoft's "knowledgebase" it is very helpful

Sometimes I feel I have been a little harsh on swift_jams.
I'm sure if I ever met him he would probably be the nicest
person I have ever broken the nose of.
