hello,
just wondering if anyone knew what the first music sequencing programs were that you could import and cut up audio? i'm doing an essay on compostional techniques of IDM/drill & bass and would like to know.

Not that I've used either, but probably a Fairlight or Synclavier.
These weren't standalone software, but hardware synths. The Fairlight used a business computer as the brains. I'm sure you can google as well as I can to find out more.
Before that there were programs for minicomputers like the pdp-11 used in academia, but I don't know what they could do cut up wise. I imagine they were not used for drill n bass at all! Probably more like csound type stuff.
Food for thought anyway.
