OK so I was talking to a friend of a friend who apparently
DJ's a lot around the world. He listened to some of my stuff
and asked me for some straight techno, actually he asked for
something good, something I have never done.

Have been more into breakbeat growing up I have no idea what
'techno' is meant to sound like to people who are into
'techno' and I was wondering whether I am on the right path
with this sort of junk?

Just two small bits, maybe a bit loud because I am trying to
do this through boredom and laptop speakers at my
girlfriends house and the bass might be a bit shite :P

bits.

I'll take it down if the sound is too bad until I get to
hear it though headphones/proper speakers.

Sounds like the kind of music i did when i was 15 years old.
I guess it's sort of techno, but it's not very good.

I haven't done anything in ages, I just cracked open the
Cubase and started messing. I'm pretty bored with music
making to be honest because I very rarely get the sound I am
after. I guess it is a lack of knowledge, commitment and
patience.

When I hear it properly I will no doubt agree.

you should go back to making the kind of music you did when
you were fifteen, no offense.

Not to be off putting, but nothing about that track made me
want to listen to it ever again. It's not bad enough for me
to be interested in enough to hate it. So... It's not bad.
But it's not good either, and that puts it in the big pool
of mediocre shit that floats around on this god forsaken
planet. Put some effort into it, man.

You made me pause my playing of "Tom Trauber'ts Blues (Four
sheets to the winds in Copenhagen)" by Tom Waits, to play
this, so i guess all odds were against you.

The only good thing i have to say about it, is that the beat
changes in a way i didnt think it would... But come on.
Please...

I'm sorry, but i guess you want an honest oppinion when you
post your stuff.

I do remember that you posted some music that i quite liked
once so please do that again!

Obviously my normal shit sounds like the two tracks on my
MySpace but the people these so called 'techno' tracks will
be for, when finished, didn't like that shit.

MySpace

fact that you have taken the time to listen to and slag off
my efforts :P

Yes... The myspace tracks are much much better. Actually
worth my effort.

They actually seem to transmit some kind of emotion, while
your "techno" just makes me cringe.

They seem to have an idea about them.

Music is all about creating a little universe for yourself,
that you invite other people to be a part of. Like building
a little castle made out of pillows as a child, that is a
secure domain, that a select few can see.

"Dead of night" does this more successfully, but still. I
want full tracks. No A&R guy will listen to your stuff and
go "hey, those 1 minute demos were really promising, lets
sign this guy!". Neither will i. All i can say, judged from
the sounds you've uploaded right now is, yeah, it's kind of
promising, but it might also be completely worthless.

Hate this statement, and prove me wrong. Make some music.

As i wrote in another post today, i wouldnt bother doing
tough love, if i didnt think your music had some kind of
promise.

I guess i'm the new IDM Simon Cowell
