Five questions with Aphex Twin The story, I was at a pub drinking with my pals before watching Aphex Twin live and the man himself was there, I didn't believe it, I had my portable walkman with me and got to ask some questions but when I got home there was university entrance and other problems... I lost the tape... to be completely honest I cried... recently the tape was found by my mother, god I was going to start a fanzine but instead I will share it with you, my moment with Aphex Twin! It's transcribed from tape, so one or two words could be misunderstood. Have you got any kind of guiding philosophy for making music? 1. I just think it's really lush to have two kind of sides to things. I've got my electronic music side where I'm programming DSP algorithms and building circuits, messing about with tape decks and old reverb tanks. On the other hand I'll just chill out with my mates and toke on a fat biffa of a spliff. Sorted on all fronts really. You're really cold about your approach? 2. Nahh, no way, I'm just well into melody really, having a beautiful tune go on. It's wicked. It's got to have some feelings going on. This sounds a bit twonky but it's got to appeal to your heart. Why do you sell your music to advertising companies? 3. Money. It makes the world go around. I've done really well, so I've got no complaints about anything really. What have you got planned for the future? 4. I might chuck out an album on Warp but I'll have to think about that. There's too many lush things to be doing right now and I really can't be fucked doing any more promotions basically. Musically I've been doing some hip hop tracks on my piano with my girlfriend, nothing serious, just for a laugh. You'll never hear it. What was it like working with Chris Cunningham? 5.
