what music should i get?

raz0rblade's link to that mp3 search engine made me realise
that i don't really know what music i want. i am in a
country now where music is more readily available so i'm
wondering what's good out there? this a troublesome question
because all of you have a different idea of what constitutes
good music. for the past while i've been listening to much
of the same music. it's safe to say i have a fair obsession
with stereolab and the magnetic fields (earlier stuff). i
really dig kraftwerk's style, i listen to them a lot.

please recommend me something. i suppose i like stereolab so
much because they make use of and combine different elements
of music i like. i'm a fan of the melody, i like the guitar,
i dig a good beat, and some harmonius vocals. i like the
magnetic fields vocals because it's nice and deep. i also
like my bloody valentine and sonic youth. please help me i'm
stuck.

Strange Life Records
Frustrated Funk

thanks guys. i guess what i should have said was that i'm
looking for something epic and timeless. something that
reaches deep down into your gut pulling out your insides.
it's painful but alright because the music is good.

you shouldn't get any music. don't fall for the
consumer-trap! don't!

it's funny you should say that. i was just at hmv and
decided to go all out and get another stereolab album "fab
four suture" and the incredibly weird guy said "enjoy your
product" after i paid for it.

was he a robot?

he sure acted like one. he also asked (like a robot) "did
you find everything you were looking for at HMV?". I said
no, I wasn't looking for anything specific, just browsing in
general. he then replied with "that is good, sir. please
insert your card."

i've listened to 'fab four suture' about four times now and
i can safely say that it is the shit. the bass sound on this
is really good. there seems to be a nice element of 70s funk
on this one. aanndd, while it sounds distinctly stereolab,
it doesn't sound like anything else they've done. oh so
sweet.

<3 !!

yeah isn't 'excursions into oh, a-oh amazing'? it seems like
most people i talk to dislike the kyberneticka babicka tunes
but i love em. they could go on forever and that'd be great.
i wasn't sure what would happen after mary hansen died and i
dont think i've ever really listened to margarine eclipse
all the way through but i really think fab four suture is a
great album.

you have dots and loops?

offline FlyAgaric from the discovery (Africa) on 2007-12-13 15:56 [#02153863]

no, there are many i don't have, including emperor tomato
ketchup which is supposedly their most famous one. i really
love 'margerine eclipse'. it's full of really delicious
'hits'. i wasn't so crazy about it at first, but it really
grew on me after a while.

if you haven't heard anything by electrelane then do so, the
power out and oxes are both great, if you like stereolab you
will like them. check salaryman, nought, radian, rachels,
you might like signaldrift as well... talk talk - spirit of
eden is essential if you don't have it already,
satanicpornocultshop are great and mad, some dntel stuff
maybe if you like more song-ish electronics. can't be arsed
thinking any of any more

learn to use the wonders of the internet to find music
you'll like.

things like allmusic.com, wikipedia, last.fm, and pandora
are godsends to those in search of new media.

i'd reccomend some music of my own but it doesnt seem like
we have very similar tastes so i'll leave that up to others
who have a been sense sense of what you'll like.

i often find the "if you like this then you will that"
connections on sites are inaccurate. i never agree with
them.

don't you worry rad smiles, dots and loops is now on my
stereolab priority list, which really is my general priority
list.

and thanks belb, i will definitly look for those names!

also: Sean O'Hagan- who has done a whole lot of Stereolab's
arrangements/production/added instrumentation- has some band
called the High Llamas which is very hit or miss but
enjoyable.
