did you catch the interview? : - )

i must say they seem like a couple of very nice guys..i'd
expect them to be a bit more umm, 'warply arrogant' or
something, but they're quite the contrary..very pleasant and
modest. if anyone is in terested in what they said i can get
you an mp3 some time..i don't have it with me atm. not that
i asked anything you haven't heard before hehe..but
still..they're working on couple of things so it may be
interesting for the fans i guess : )

i may go down to the station tonight before the gig and get
the mp3 and i'll upload it to sendspace or something and
post the link here if anyone else wants to check it out.

well, it's what i've been doing lately..interviews are a
part of the 'job', and it's a pretty cool radio station that
covers all sorts of alternative music so we usually do
interviews with anyone relevant or interesting..

thursday..the show still goes on but no interview for it im
affraid. i wish we had time though, there's plenty of stuff
i wanted to ask them..oh well

interview
recorded about 8 hours ago..it was supposed to revolve
around the greedy baby as a sort of promotion, but there's
some other stuff too..however only 20 minutes as there was
no time for more..

gonna write a thing or two about the gig in a minute or
two..it was pretty great..some songs specifically..kinda
really great ones : )

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-12-14 17:10 [#02154265]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

so the gig was great dispite some technical problems..bob
couldn't come along this time and they had problems with
getting video on screen..but im not that into this whoole
video thing though i would have loved it if they played some
certain repetitive songs with the same video sequence for
hours..music wasn't anything like stuff on tekkon or greedy
baby and im pretty sure i haven't heard it before so i
reckon it was some new material..they said they may play
some new stuff..there was hardly any melodic lines, just
straight sort acid sounding techno..very trance like..the
mine line sounded like digerido and then there was acidy
pattern going over it and pretty straigh rhythm..very
repetitive structure but it was sort of building
up..definitelly the highlight for me. there were some other
excellent tracks based almost entirely on complex rhythms
with some subtle melodies, but not in their usual way..or at
least not anything like i've heard from them.
so i hope they put out an album of this sort of pure rhytmic
music..i bet their threads here would get over 200 replies
then haha.

the one thing i was disappointed about gig wise was that
there wasn't any transition..they basically played tracks
piece by piece..maybe that was due to bob not being there
and they not be able to control the mixing of the videos so
i can understand there. still an excellent gig though, i
prefered it to that other time i saw them..and all because
of those few splendid tracks : )

although, the interview was slightly amusing, if not a bit
rude..

"maybe you started doing video because you felt you didnt
have too much to say through music anymore"

hahah, wow :P

just had to say it haha..they were cool about it though.. ed
apologised for being sort of tired as we recorded it the
same minute they came in the city : ) u tell you, they're a

perhaps a bit rude, but i think it broke the ice. you've got
a couple of interesting answers there. especially the part
where they commented their own work. that they always try to
be original but somehow end up in a similar spot. it was
good to hear their version.

can't wait for their new work. too bad we'll have to wait
till 'summer 09'-ish. are there any live-sets floating
about?

it's what i really like about them. they talk just about
anything completly openly..they've got nothing to hide, it
is what it is..they're not making sience of something that
isn't there.. same goes for thwir live act..they said they
could as well just press 'play' and computer would do all
the work but it's all about the show..they're not full of
bullshit unlike lots of other people.

also, i've only started doing interviews recently, i've
maybe done 5 interviews in english alltogether by now so
hopefully i'll get better eventually : )

yes, and what helps is that they haven't got their heads up
their own arses. they seem to be the kind of guys you could
talk to about any subject. politics, economy, music, art,
whatever. i don't think many others in the field got some
interesting things to say about anything besides their own
work.

Great interview! I especially liked what they were saying at
the end about atnonal harmony and the need for people to
more open to different musical forms. And ending world
poverty as an "art piece". Couldn't agree more.

I'm surprised at how self depreciative they are, though. I
don't personally see how anyone could find their last couple
of albums monotonous at all, but maybe that's just me.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-12-15 06:52 [#02154506]

it indeed seems thry could talk about anything..more
interesting things than i have asked, but the thing with
radio is it should be informative for people who don't know
the artist..it's really more about the promotion for the gig
itself, that's why i was asking about the greedy baby and
tekkon and visuals so much..and also, it's a different thing
if you have time to do interview properly..talk it out and
then edit it, but the thing is most artist come into town
right before the gig takes place and there's basically no
time to do it properly as the interview must go on air
before the gig..i wish i could do interviews for magazines..

well, as you can hear this wasn't recorded in a studio, so
the background music is added when it goes on air..i think i
picked some song off the greedy baby.

btw, is that sort of repetitive, unmelodic rhythm based
music anything you've heard by them before? i haven't heard
all their records and if that's something similar to what
they might have put out can you please let me know, as im
doing a one and a half hour show on them next week and i'd
love to play that music too : )

btw, i know this is bad, but i only have the main albums +
dialp and p-brane, (both) black dog albums and those
artifical inteligence compilations. so i was wondering,
aesthetics, i know you are a big fan, if it's possible you
could pick out some more obscure (preferably less melodic to
their usual thing) tracks that aren't on those albums / eps
i have, and you know, rip them to mp3s and send them over?
:D if you don't have time for this (should be 5 tracks tops
as i need to fit in all their major work as well ofcourse)
or if you would feel bad about sharing their music in this
way i'll understand : )
